Well I had my cardiac cath today. Wow that hurt. They said that the lidocaine must not have numbed well or they were by the nerve. Some bleeding afterward. Thought they would push a hole through my thigh.

BUT.... totally clear coronary arteries and the severe aortic regurg that I already knew about. Also had a CT with contrast, chest x-ray. Having a Trasesophageal echo and labs on Tuesday and meeting with the surgeon on Thursday to set the date. Haven't talked to the surgeon yet but planning on going with a mechanical valve. Want to have surgery as little as possible. I could have crawled out of my skin just laying still for 2 hrs. after the cath!!

Whew! It's a relief to know everything else is good!:)
I'll keep ya posted.

Heather,

Glad your cath didn't show anything you didn't know about already. I am sure it is a relief. Kind of a gift for having to go through a cath - yuck. I never did well with caths and hope I am through with them for life.

Hope all goes well with the rest of your tests. Take care.

I was terrified of the cath and insisted they put me out. They did, and I had no trauma associated with it.

Good results, huh? Congrats on having clear pipes.

Heather,

So sorry you had a difficult time with your cath but hopefully the good news that you received will help th pain go away.

Take Care!
Sue

Glad to hear the results of your cath didn't show any additional problems. Good luck when you talk to your surgeron. Keep us posted on your surgery date.

Email if you need to talk.

Sending hugs and prayers your way.

I didn't realise that you stay awake for a cath, Curtis was put to sleep and will be in january, probably because he's a child. sorry you had a difficult time but glad you got good news Paula x

*raises eyebrow*

You were awake for your cath?

Hmm.... I was put to sleep before mine. IIRC, that was done a month or so before my March 1987 surgery. However....aye....I know I woke up DURING the cath. THAT was not pleasant. I don't remember feeling "pain" per se, just was frightened that they didn't realize I was awake. Since I couldn't move or talk...I couldn't let 'em know I was awake. Luckily, a nurse discovered my eyes open...and quickly gave me more "stuff". Heh.

Good luck, Heather...and, as has already been noted, keep us posted. Thoughts/prayers coming your way.

I had a very similar unpleasant experiences during my heart cath. Wow that hurt was so true. I didn't expect to feel much but I did. Sorry this happened to you.

I'm jealous of those of you who were allowed to be out during the procedure:p . Actually if I ever have another one, I'm going to ask if that can be done for me.

did you ask about robotic repair? I'm glad I did I just went through the same thing you did and St. Lukes in Milwukee can do robotic repair with a 1" incision check out DR.O'Hair

I had a similar experience getting only locals, being completely awake and aware, and then the tedious 2 hours plus of not being allowed to move afterward. I found out that different hospitals do this with differing levels of patient awareness, and I wasn't prepared for it having heard stories from others that they were "out of it", and that it was no big deal. (The two people that I had spoken with had the procedure done through their arm, which seems to be a lot easier on the patient.)
Anyway, after going through that experience, I thought that the actual surgery wasn't nearly as bad as I anticipated. You will hopefully find the same.
