Glad I found this website. I am at work and doing this on my break. Was diagnosed 23 years ago and had the mitral valve replacement done 02/27/03 of this year. Have a St. Jude valve. Mine was far too bad to repair. I feel better than I have in 10 years. I guess I had adapted my life to the malfunctioning valve so now I will be doing things I avoided before. Had some problems after the surgery with heart rhythm so I was there for 11 days. Was home for 5 days and back into intensive care because I went out of sinus rhythm. Went back to work part-time in 5 weeks and fulltime in 8. When I was diagnosed I was raising 4 children and worked full time. I don't know how I did it. Life is good.:)

Hi Birky (Marcia)

Welcome to our little heart home.

You'll find everyone to be welcoming and a certain one *cough* just not right in the head *cough*, but were all a great group of people.

Look forward to seeing you post more in the future. :)

Hi Marcia,

Welcome to this site. We hope you stick around. I'm glad you are doing so well following your mitral replacement.

There are quite of few of us with rheumatic heart disease including me. Alot of folks have congenital problems like bi-cuspid valves and such. In fact, among us we probably have about everything that has ever happened to a valve.

We support each other through some hard times but we have some fun along the way as well.

Make yourself at home!

I had surgery early in February and it's just been in the last month that I've begun feeling really much better - lots more energy and endurance.

Stay around and just jump right in whenever you want.
