What a terrible experience. I am so sorry you had to deal with such a problem.
The human body is remarkable in its ability to get over the most difficult problems, as long as you get the immediate care that you need.
One Hematologist told me that it takes about three weeks to a month for new blood cells to be "born", grow up and be old enough to do their work. It's a cute analogy that I never forgot. So the time frame you were told was right on. You'll be in good shape then and OK for the scalpel.
