Strangest thing happened. Go figure. Sometimes I feel like we never get a break.

Last night I noticed a bubble like (almost felt like a blister) raised and blue on my lower gum on the outside gum area close to my crown. Of course being the curious gal I am.....tried to clean around and it sort of popped. Not much blood. Kept rinsing with salt water. Waiting for the dentist to call.

Any ideas? My gums are in pristine condition...so I am leaning towards some sort of injury. Just want to make sure there is no infection. Oh, INR 3.3 yesterday.

Thanks :D

I've had these over the years, usually on the roof of my mouth, but also on the actual gums. Sometimes they've been linear. One instance required a trip to the dentist.
These were all BC -- before Coumadin. They have been herplex simplex -- pretty bad fever blisters, basically. I've never had chicken pox, so we don't think it's shingles I'm suffering from. I have no problem with gum disease, just these blisters from time to time.

Since my MVR and going on Coumadin, I've had 3 episodes of blisters on the roof. My PCP has prescribed acyclovir, an anti-viral Rx, for "the next time." They get pretty sore.

Don't know if this is what you've experienced.

Dentist seems to think something may have lodged under the crown causing the "blister". To air on the side of caution he injected the site with Peridex. I was really really sick last week with a stomach virus. As you pointed out Catwoman...could have been from the illness!

Thank you for your reply! :)

Ps........Marsha. Have wanted to comment on your beautiful cat. Understand you show? We found our beloved blue point Birman at a cat show. She's just purrrrrrrfect :D

No cats...but have had the little "blister things" a few times before I even knew what Coumadin was...No biggie...

For some reason, I've suffered from ulcers and blisters in my mouth all my life.
Couple of weeks post-op, I ran a fever of 101+ for 3 days. PCP ran blood cultures. Nothing found. Cardio's office had said it was probably "just" a virus. PCP concurred. About a week later, I get a nice little crop of the blisters on the roof of my mouth.
Once had it so bad that my dentist prescribed pain relievers, antivirals, etc. Said my lymph nodes in the throat were a little enlarged at that time, too.

Birmans are a pretty neat breed of LH cat. I may be getting one to show next season (current one ends April 25). As a shorthair judge, I have to show longhairs before I can apply to become a longhair judge. I've shown about 5 Persians and look forward to something less "involved." :D

Hi Gina,

I'm glad you had it checked out and hope it clears up for you soon. You don't want any infection hanging around your mouth.............too great a risk for endocarditiis.

I think you need to edit your heading "hematuria on gum?" .
Hematuria means blood in the urine. So what you are saying is bloody urine on the gum......I don't think that is what you mean. ;)

Thank Betty. Few weeks ago there was a concern of "hematuria". Been having all sorts of little pleasures as of late. I need a break! Few days in Vegas with the hubby should cure that. Or......make it worse

I've had these "ulcers" all of my life, mostly in my gums. It is also my understanding that they are caused by Herpes Simplex - not to be confused with Genital Herpes - which can get active by stress or minor injury to the gums. My 11-year-old son has them as well, and we visited the doctor on Monday because he had them so bad on the margins of his tongue that he was barely talking and eating nothing but soup. They gave him Valtrex, which is also used to treat Genital Herpes and advertised for that purpose regularly on t.v. Four horse pills cost about $45! Fortunately, that's all you need. He has already gotten better and is talking some. I think that his teachers enjoyed the silence yesterday since he is usually very talkative in class! I've never been told that these are dangerous for people with mechanical valves, and my dentist and cardio are aware that I get them. If they are very painful you can "gargle" with a mixture of Benadryl and Maalox.
