and i just went weak with the posts,i,m glad
your alright. oh my here i leave lightheaded
just over your finger discriptions on the post
Think i need that drink.....the best to you cheers!!!!
Freddie, was just reading your post. I hope you are doing much better and the bleeding has stopped all together. WHAT, WERE YOU DOING WITH A KNIFE?
Your going to have to stay away from those dangerous things. We might have to put you in a cage for awhile to keep you from injuring yourself. Hope it stops hurting so you can sleep well tonight. Let us know in the morning how your finger is doing.
Well CThrock, I WAS planning a nice supper for some friends......ha ha ha.
And I was trying to start a new 'head' of garlic; trying to pry off a couple of cloves and the knife slipped......don't ask me how but it slipped and put a half moon shape between the the first and second knuckle of my left index finger.
This IS the first time I have cut myself in years and the first time since surgery - that's over a year. Thought I was doing pretty good
Well what were you trying to cook for dinner? Sounds good with garlic but, you could of done it without the bloody finger. Don't forget your bruised eye just a few months ago. I don't know what were going to do with you. I guess just love you anyways!!! Hope your feeling better and your finger stopped hurting as much.
Crystal
Strange thing is that it didn't bleed right away.. It first felt I skinned it - like sliding your knuckle across a rough brick. It didn't really start to bleed until I stopped the cold water - which I was told by the doctor "that was useless"
So, there was no blood left behind on my onions or garlic and I didn't shed any blood when I had my black eye...........guess I'm a slow bleeder.
That must have been some tough garlic! I always just use my fingers!
I've decided that if I ever cut myself badly again, I'm just using super glue. That's what they did the last time I went to the ER. It's much cheaper to do it myself! Hope the pain stops soon. Take Aleve if Tylenol isn't working. I personally thing Tylenol is no bueno por caca.
I'd be more worried if it wasn't throbbing. That would mean sliced nerves and could cause a nonfunctional finger. Glad it's stitched up now. Yeah, cold water, wet towels etc are no good. Let the blood remove the contaminates and use dry dressings and keep applying if they saturate. Sooner or later, it will clot.
not that there's gonna be a next time, but next time while you've got your hand
elevated, also wad up a dry dish rag, put it in your armpit and squeeze gently to
put some pressure on the artery. if it doesn't work, try the arm with the bleeder.
Well lets just say I didn't sleep very well last night.
I wonder if the band aid is on too tight? Its still throbbing an sssooooo tender.
The tip of the finger at the base of the finger nail, looks okay, maybe a little swollen but the color doesn't indicate that the band aid is to tight.
I am to leave this band aid on for 24 hours - thats what the nurse said. The doctor just told me to just apply Poly-sporin (similar to Neo-sporin) till the stitches come out.
So I'm a little about that. I don't want to get ointment on everything I touch.
Maybe everyone can "hope" a little harder that the pain will go away sooner than later.
Thanks Friends for your concern
What I have found is that with a wound like this, there are three days of intense pain and throbbing, with the third day being the worst. After that things start to settle down.
Freddie, Polysporin is great stuff! I always have it aroound and take it with me when I travel. I have found that it speeds the healing process up. Neosporin doesn't do the same, at least for me.
Thanks Nancy. You hit the nail on the head with the intense pain and throbbing.
So.....Now for two recovery questions:
- should I wrap my finger/hand before I go in the shower?
- should I be really concern about infection; and getting that infection that yaps has? (sorry have no clue how to spell it)
oh, poor freddie - I did check in, but by the time I was reading about your plight, you were either in ER or stuffing your face at some fancy resto place with friends, so I didn't think there was much point posting.
Hope it gets better soon - and if it needed 4 stitches, I would think that someone whose INR was at half normal would bleed for a while, there are a lot of blood vessels and nerves in your fingers, that is why we use them for feeling things, and not our noses or toes
Take whatever you need for the pain, even double dosage of OTC stuff won't be too bad for you, and if you have anything stronger like Tyleonol 3 or oxycocet or percocet, you could try halving them and see if that helps.
Take care of yourself and that poor paw will get better !
I sliced my finger in the same place, except palm side, about 30 years ago; I looked into the wound and saw the bone. I got more than 4 stitches, and it still hurts when the weather changes.
The worst pain was a couple of days later when my oldest (about 18 months then) stepped on it.
