I'm having essentially the same surgery in May and have often questioned myself on what I should get. I'm 34 and still semi-active but am wanting to get back into hockey. My doctor recommended the tissue valve and said that at around 45, I should seriously think about the mechanical. I was just talking to my wife and we both decided that at 45, if I'm still actively playing hockey that one more tissue valve and then the mechanical (if I make it that long.)

I can only imagine the anxiety you're going through, I do hope all goes as planned. Good luck.

Just sending our prayers...............

I'm glad that you have made up your mind. I think for many on here that is the most difficult decision to make. Some of us did not have a choice, and, in some ways, that was easier than what you middle rangers have to deal with. If it is any consolation, my five year old has been on coumadin for seven months now :)eek: God, has it really been that long already???) and she is doing just fine. Yeah, we have had a few scares because she is Hell on two feet, but so far, it ain't been half bad...............and her energy has tripled. Many hugs and we will certainly add you to our prayers. Hugs. Janet

Glad you made the decision and wishing you the best for a successful surgery and uneventful recovery- looking forward to all good news.

Thanks for the replies and words of encouragement.

I think I'm going to stick my initial decision and go with the mechanical valve.

I'll reply back as soon as I can after the surgery.

I added your surgery to the calendar; hope you don't mind.
God Bless and Godspeed on your journey.:)
Mary
