This is sorta a smorgasboard of stuff....so, I apologize if it don't sound well-thought out...LOL....
Recently, I've felt uneasy, tho not sure why. Also, the rapid
& irregular heart beat is not helping the sleeping issue...kinda
frustrating, but ah, well...this, too, shall pass.....tho, I'm told I
should leave work early if I'm feeling tired, but I *hate* to do
that...since it just looks like I'm taking advantage of it...AND
because by the time I get home, I tend to feel
better....LOL....aye....it's one of those "catch 22s" I believe....
At any rate, I know some of us have problems with health
insurance...well, auto insurance isn't much better...case in point....
The Bottom Line:
I'da been better off not filing a claim, despite the fact that
insurance is supposed to be of assistance....
The Story Line:
Saturday night, May 10: My 2000 Monte Carlo LS got flooded during a heavy rainstorm (combination storm/sewer). The water reached over the rocker panels, up to the bottom portion of the seats. I filed a claim with State Farm (SF).
Tuesday, May 13: I took the day off work to do a few things, among which was to have SF look it over. I wasn't satisfied with
their "findings" (cleaning only...nothing replaced...& only for
interior parts). Commence battle.
Friday, May 16: The windows were fogging up so badly that I could barely keep them clear. Plus, the dashboard started to warp. Thus, I dropped the car off at the auto body shop...it has sat there since, with me utilizing my older 4 baby girls (which I prefer to drive anyway...lol...except not in the rain, of which my '79 has seen & is now dirty...arg!).
By Friday, May 23: SF agreed to give the car a 2nd estimate,
addressing all of the issues I had mentioned.
Tuesday, May 27: SF completed the 2nd estimate. Unfortunately, SF stood firm on the original estimate...& would not agree to other repairs. I had been previously told that since no work had been done yet, I would not be re-imbursed for a rental (despite rental coverage in my policy). I have been since told that I will be paid for loss of use &, if I choose, a rental car. However, I have not received this in writing.
Fighting continues; I have filed a complaint with the IL Department of Insurance.
The unFinish Line:
I do not believe SF is doing their job. The purpose of insurance is
to assist in times of need; in this case, I have received the run-
around, different stories from different people at SF, & most-likely
will have more problems with the car. I understand, per IL law, that a car is to be totaled only if the damage is 33.3% or more of the total value of the car. Thus, since the current "damages" amount to only about $900 that a car SF says is worth $10,700 (more than what I was asking to sell it for), the car cannot be totaled. However, this situation means that I owe money on a car that now has to have a Flood Title (per IL law), which will then make it rather uninsurable, since the payout (in the event of a total loss down the road) will be far less than what the car is worth.... Course, the car is now unsellable.... In addition, I'm told that "dimished value" is not valid in the state of IL, but SF has yet to come up with the IL code for that one...
Throw into the mix my credit union is insisting that full coverage is
still required for the car & they are "reviewing" their ability to
release the title for me to obtain a Flood Title...right now, it
appears I'm going to have to pay the full amount I owe to get the
title so I can then apply for a Flood Title. "Irony Rocks" .
If that's not enough, GM has informed me that my extended warrantee is now voided.
So, basically, it appears that I'll be driving around a "cleaned" car
with a Flood Title that is now unsellable & (virtually) uninsurable
that has no warrantee. This is not why I bought a daily driver...LOL!
*sigh* If only the City of Elgin had been quicker in addressing the
flooding problems on our street & in our home....
