My 77yr old Father is 6 months post-op 'tissue AVR'. Following a grim first week (3 OHS) he has made a remarkable recovery.

He has been complaining recently of headaches which he did not suffer from pre-op. Is it possible the headaches maybe linked to the AVR surgery? I have read threads which make me wonder if this is a possibility...

He was on Amiodarone for 2 months post-op and I know this drug takes months to leave the system. He will speak to his General Practitioner at the next opportunity.

Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Hi,
I can't really say regarding your dad since all of us a different. In speaking about myself. I had migrane headaches (aura, vision loss and pain) about once a month prior to my AVR. It has been almost 4 years since my surgery but now I have only gotten the aura 3 or 4 times and each time I thought back on what was different and discovered that I had been stressed at work and was clenching my jaw. So yes I would bring this up to his GP when you see him. Best wishes to you and your dad.

Headaches can be caused by many factors and it is wise that your dad will speak to his GP about his headaches.

In my humble unprofessional opinion, I am wondering if your dad or anyone in his household monitors his blood pressure? What the readings are at the time of the headache?! Does he watch his salt intake?! I, personally, am very sensitive/allergic to salt...an extra pinch causes me a headache!

Keep us posted and good luck to both of you :)
