I've been to Portland ME quite a few times, including a cat show there in 1995 at a Catholic school.
My oldest niece graduated from Boston U., so I'd fly up in the fall, spend a week driving around New England and on the weekend we'd hit Portland (and Freeport, of course, to shop @ LL Bean). Had dinner on a former ferry docked in the Portland harbor. Fascinating reading history about the ferry on back of the dinner menu.
