My 8 year old had an xray and check up for her hips today. She was born with congenital hip dysplasia and was one of the worst cases her doctor had seen. Her right hip socket was completely undeveloped and the brace that usually works did nothing for her (at 2 months old). So from three months to six months she was in a body cast, then a full time brace for another two months, then part time til she was a year. She has gone back every year for an xray and thank God for her wonderful surgeon, it still looks great!!! We are so blessed to be near Children's Hospital of PA, the #1 pediatric ortho program in the country. They are so wonderful there and her doctor is just the sweetest. She only has to go back now every other year til she's 14 and God willing everything will stay on course. I'm thinking of making a short CD for him of her time in her cast and now playing soccer. Just wanted to share a good day. Hope everyone else is having one too....

Great news on your daughter. I will pray that things stay so stable.

A really good day is one where you get to wake up and hang around for another one. A great day is where you get such good news.

Thanks for sharing.

That is good news! I can't help but think how much medical technology has changed since I was a child. It really is mind blowing.

Thanks for sharing that heartwarming story. It sounds like it has been a long trip to a wonderful destination. Congratulations to you and your daughter!

Strawberry,

That is wonderful news! It must have been hard during all those months when she was in a body cast. I hope all goes well from here on out.

Yep. If it were the good old days many of us, and certainly me, would be dead right now.

Yes, I was just thinking yesterday that if we lived in the middle ages, she would be crippled. But then I probably wouldn't have lived to have her. Sadly, even if we lived in a third world country TODAY she would be crippled. The body cast was a trip. She had to have it put on under anesthesia and have it changed monthly cause she would out grow it. It went from her armpits, all the way down her right leg and to just above the knee on the other leg. So she could move her head arms and left lower leg. She constantly kicked that leg. Her legs were casted outward from her body like the lower half of ah H. She didn't care though, she was happy as a clam. Get it? We fed her her bottle by sitting on the couch with our legs bent, then putting her on our legs in front of us. Couldn't use a baby swing, regular car seat, exersaucer, nothing. But at least she stayed where we put her! Couldn't even roll of the couch. The type of cast is called a hip spica cast. It's very rare for babies to wind up in one. Anyway, she's done well since and I hope it stays that way.

My middle sons feet both turned in very badly when he was born. We tried everything the doctor told us to get them to turn outward. This included physical therapy, specially made shoes with bars across the bottom. At one year old they put him him casts from his hips down both legs. He would lay in his crib and kick the sides of the bars until he fell asleep every night. His legs and feet are perfectly straight now but he is flat footed. He is 35.

Thrilled for you..........
