I agree with Marsha that diets often don't work well. Personally, they just make me obsess over food and then it defeats the whole purpose.

Another alternative to the milk suggestion is low- or no-fat yogurt. I have some with every lunch for extra protein.

If you like to eat larger portions, I recommend "Volumetrics" and "Hungry Girl" and "Eat this, not that"approach. Google them. All three use lower cal/larger size portions/high fiber approaches to keep you feeling satisfied so you are less likely to cheat.

Some great responses here. I have nothing specific to add, except that if it were me, I would not embark upon some radical weight-loss regimen the month before surgery. Just my thought. Best to you, James.

That is the same as Weight Watchers' approach: "high-density" foods. By high-density, the food is low in calories but big in bulk or fiber. You may not have to eat larger portions, because you feel more satisifed. For example: An apple or orange or bag of low-fat popcorn over a candy bar. A bag of popcorn over that bag of Lay's BBQ Wavy Lays chips. (my downfall )

Well my wife is getting me to go to her Weight Watchers meeting in the morning with her. I think a major part of my problem is eating like I used to when I had the energy I did..... That should change soon.

I would be afraid of using a detox that could potentially put a strain on the heart.
After my MI, my first cardiologist had me drop my calorie consumption below 1,000. He said since I wasn't getting much exercise I did not need many calories anyway. The first week or so was rough because I was always hungry.
This go around I am doing the same thing, since I can not get much exercise waiting for my surgery, I have dropped my calorie consumption and have dropped at least 10 pounds from the dieting. It is kind of hard to measure what is working better, the diet or the lasix. If I include the total weight drop including the lasix it is almost 20 pounds in the last month (I had a lot of fluid built up at the end of Oct.) I do know I am feeling better, I am breathing easier and my ankles are as swollen at the end of the day.

Best wishes to you. This will help you to eat healthy. Also, WW doesn't encourage fast weight loss, so this may be a good idea for you.
