Hi Jaydee!

I had my surgery on October 4 and I have a one-year old. The great thing about that age is they can climb up on your lap. Here's what we do: we keep a bed pillow in each room and when I sit down, I put it vertically between my chin & my lap. The baby can climb up & down on me when she pleases (or sometimes her daddy puts her on me) and if she bangs her head against me, the pillow is like a shock absorber -- doesn't hurt at all. I'm starting to forget the pillow sometimes now (ouch) but I was religious about it for the first two weeks and I really enjoyed holding her as much as she wanted. Ironically, recovery gives me more time for snuggling than I used to have :) Sometimes we nap together in the recliner (pillow in place!)

At 3 weeks post-op, my issues are energy (I still don't have much) and pain at about 5:00am because I use my arms to roll over in my sleep. Owie. But it's getting better and as far as the baby is concerned, I don't think this has registered as a trauma for her. On the contrary, in some ways, she's the gainer.

I know you'll do well. I was amazed at how many things I worried about that I just didn't need to. You will be too.

Thanks for the information and advice - I will certainly give that a try! I hope your recovery continues to go well!

Good Luck-Jill

Best of Luck with your surgery. I had mitral valve repair 8/15 and cataract surgery yesterday. I am lucky that I had 3 months between jobs. My emergency trach slowed things down for me.
Your little one is so cute. He will help you feel better right away. When little people came to visit it would distract me and put a smile on my face. (We have 4 granddaughters).
We will all be anxiously awaiting news of how well you are doing. I was told that Dr. Cosgrove was one of the best but I didn't want to leave Baltimore and all of my family.
Relax and take care.
Joanne

It will soon be over!

It will soon be over!

Hi Jill, I was thinking of you today and thought I'd post in here to wish you all the best for Monday's surgery. I know it's not as simple as that, but try to have a relaxing weekend with your husband and wee boy. The'll give you all the strength you'll need to get through it all! Take care and think positive! See you on the other side of the mountain.

Thanks everyone! We leave for Cleveland tomorrow and my surgery is first thing Tuesday morning. We've got lots to do before then!

See you on the other side!
