Hi everyone, this is my first thread. I was given today a date, November the 28th to replace aortic valve and perhaps a by- pass of the right coronary artery. The operation will be done in Nicosia Cyprus at the Americn Heart Institute. I am looking forward to spend Christmass holidays with my two children (11 & 7) at home. Any advice is wellcome.

Hi Michael and welcome to our humbled home.

I'll play the roll of welcoming committee. Have you been researching things or do you still seek more answers or just where are you with all of this?

You'll get whatever you want and need here, that's for sure. We've all been there and done that, so to speak.

On November 28 my husband and I will celebrate 18 wonderful years of marriage. You have chosen a blessed day for your surgery! All the best to you. :)

Welcome, Michael! I had my aortic valve replaced just a few weeks ago. I can tell you that for me waiting for the surgery was the hardest part! The surgery itself was not all that bad and so far recovery has been smooth. Wishing you the best of luck on the 28th.

Welcome Michael, I put you on our calendar so you can't escape now! :) We look forward to hearing more about you and being of any help we can.

You've got a little less than four weeks presurgery to tell us all you can about your life, and then, following surgery, you can tell us the rest! :D :D

Seriously, I'm glad you're onboard, and I'm looking forward to your future posts. :)

Welcome Michael,

Though I've only been here a few months I can tell you that this is a wonderful spot to get the answers to the questions you may have, the shoulder to cry on, and the wall to pound in frustration. It's a place where you can share your deepest feelings or none at all - whatever your needs are. I pray that in the weeks before your surgery you will find what you need and then stay to share your experience with others.

Cris

Michael,

Welcome to you and I hope your surgery goes smoothly. You have come to the right place for information and encouragement.

You should be well along in your recovery for Christmas but don't plan anything too strenuous as you will only be 4 weeks out of surgery. Just place a recliner in the middle of the Christmas action and let everyone pamper you.

Please let us know how we can help.

Hello and good luck!

Hello and good luck!

Just be sure that you've got someone to gently massage your neck and shoulders and back after surgery several times per day and maybe even at night. Much better than the painkillers in relieving the pain for me. You could do some coughing for some weeks after surgery to clear your lungs and if so, a firm pillow to press against your sternum is a must. I'm heading into my third month after surgery and am starting to feel better than I did post surgery at this point although I did have some complications. Hoping for a great outcome for you!

Hi Michael. Waiting is the hardest part.....I had AVR on September 26 and feel great and get stronger every day. If you are in good shape now, your recovery should go very well. Good luck ....Maryann

Welcome, Michael. You got lucky when you happened upon VR.com. This bunch of folks are the best and can tell you whatever you need to know. We know stuff even the doctors don't know - the practical stuff. So if you have any questions we have lots of answers. You can also 'search' by typing in a word in the search function and you will find all sorts of information at your finger tips. Please hang in and keep us up to date as time goes on. Blessins.....

Hi Michael,

Welcome! It's sort of a scary relief to get a "date," isn't it?

I am one month out of AVR surgery -- right where you'll be at Christmas time. I think you can count on being able to fully enjoy and appreciate it but don't count on cutting down your own tree this year!

We will be here with you every day until your surgery and then on the postop site after your surgery. I am new and just learning my way around the site. Still lots I don't know. I have had a few bumps in my road since surgery but hopefully they are past and I will be here daily. I have come to rely on this site at least 1-2 times a day.
Take care and please share how you are doing.
Joanne

Michael,

It's coming up on a year for me. I decided to have my surgery the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. I flew home on Christmas Eve day and had probably the best holiday in my lifetime. It may be surpassed only by this holiday season when I have great health as well as a great family to spend it with.

Dan
