Wedge Pillows and Body Pillows have been mentioned by several contributors as helping them sleep better. You 'should' be albe to sleep on your sinde after a few weeks post op.

Ssounds like you are doing real well. Keep up the good work.

My method was as Gnusgal described. With your legs hung over the edge of the bed, lower your legs to the floor as you push yourself up. The weight of youf legs gives you some natural leverage. It took some experimenting to figure out how to push without stressing the rib cage. I also recall reminding myself to relax. Tensing up doesn't help.

geez i wish i could sleep on my side. I am getting a little better but that is just as far as the pain under my incisions are. my chest is lightly bruised and i am still very swollen.

Cinda, have you tried a body pillow to prop you up at maybe 45 degrees? That doesn't put as much pressure on your side or arm. Even a slight angle (just a little bit of the pillow under the whole length of you) can make a huge difference. It'll be a while until you can truly sleep on your side. Getting into bed at night was quite a production for me; at first my hubby helped so I'd get just the right position. Then I was able to move better and could get myself arranged.
