Hi, I had a mechanical mitral valve implant 7 months ago. im 41 and was really symptomatic before surgery. i still get some swelling in my ankles after standing or a lot of activity. I take a water pill occasionally now, i took them every single day before surgery because i had severe pulmonary oedema. Is the fluid retention normal this long after surgery? i had massive fluid and swelling post op. I also have an ovarian mass that is being monitored. the docs found it during tests.
any help or advice would be great but dont freak me out! thanks.

Welcome again, Tina! I'm glad you posted your question here. You should receive lots of good answers, once people wake up this side of the pond.

Tina,

Welcome and wish you best of luck. I am not a doctor nor sure if my experience can be applied on you. As our forum motto is: "when in doubt, check it out".
So please check with your doctor too.

My ankles swell but my doctor does not worry about it...it is not fluid and there other causes for swelling. In your case, (again I think it is better to check with the doctor always), if this is only at the end of the day, it could be lack of circulation or sensitivity to sodium. One grain of sodium swell me...one ounce of cheese, fatten my waist after two hoursl!

Also, be careful with dieuretics...I think some of them do not replenish your system with the minerals you loose. So, again make sure you communicate with your doctor about how often to take and what kind of dieuretics are best for you.

Good luck. I am glad they are monitoring the mass you have. Hopefully, it can be removed without affecting your health.

thanks folks, went back to my doc and she mentioned the sodium sensitivity and also suggested i reduce the dose of cardicor im on. feel relieved that i went! :)
