Ten days post-op now, fifth day out of the hospital, and I finally got out of the house for a couple of hours. I live in a 4th floor walk up so I had to walk down, then to the subway and down some more. Took the subway to Atlantic Ave, window shopped in the Guitar Center, Target and Best Buy, then took the subway home.

I had to pause to rest when I reached the top step exiting the subway, and a couple of times climbing the stairs to my apartment but I was out for almost two hours and I'd say all and all it went well. I'm pleased. Especially since I'd hoped to get out yesterday but had an attack of serious aches and pains that felt like my back yelling "What the f#%$k did you do to your rib cage!!!!!"

Hi Andrea,
That certainly sounds some jaunt you took.
Well done but remember to take things at a steady pace and don't wear youself out in these early days.
Best wishes fr your future recovery.

First time out and about post surgery

I think my back yelled the same thing at me for a couple weeks after surgery. I found that walking actually helped ease those aches. At the beginning of the walks I would feel a little like the Hunchback of Notre Dame, but by the end, I would be walking tall. I could actually feel the knotted muscles loosening up as I walked.
