One of my sisters, Faye, has fibromyalgia and is on disability because of it. I know she takes medications but don't know what they are, except for antidepressant. She has had a really rough time of it for a number of years; she's always in pain. I really hate how life is for her.

Yaps:

My youngest sister has fibromyalgia -- in addition to lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. She's on various meds for the lupus & RA, including some injections that are $2,000+ a month, I think.
She suffers more from the lupus & RA than the fibromyalgia.
She used to take Vioxx, which helped some.
Nancy needs a lot of rest, usually goes to sleep by 8 p.m. She's on disability.

A friend in Houston has fibromyalgia and, I think, lupus. She gets some infusion treatments from one of her doctors. Says it helps for several weeks. She travels all over the world, despite the fibromyalgia. Another friend has fibromyalgia but you'd never know it -- she also travels all over the world, Australia, Japan, U.S., Europe, etc. year-round.

I know several others who have fibromyalgia. Most don't have too much of a problem if they have no other medical condition.

Thankyou for your help.. I will explain once my thoughts are clear, love the pup

I know that people suffering from fibromyalgia are often relieved by anti-inflammatory agents (like Vioxx, mentioned above) and rest. Doctors are still learning about this disease and battling treatment of it, which does often also include some anti-depressant regimine. Activity should be in short spans, with frequent periods of rest in between. Perhaps when plagued by more bothersome episodes, try not to plan many activities together. Rest is essential. You could also try moist heat to sore areas. Good luck with this.

I have fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed after five years of not knowing what was wrong with me. I thought at one point I was simply going crazy. I was also on Vioxx for the pain but it didn't do any good and I stopped taking it after a week. I know that for me I have good days and bad days. I still work everyday and my husband and I travel a lot. I am told it could stay like it is forever or suddenly get a lot worse. There are support groups here in Georgia for people with fibro. I have read everything I can find on it and it was finally a female doctor who diagnosed it. The male doctors wanted to call it menopause and depression. I knew there was more to it than that.

I am going to suggest another direction. There is a book written by a D.O. called "A Doctors Proven New Home Cure for Arthritis". Please do not laugh. I have bad osteoarthritis, and have had some good success following the rules that this book suggests. Going all the way is difficult, and some day I will try it. But I would encourage you to get a copy and read it. It is out of print, but either BN.com or Amazon can locate used copies. FM is, acording to some, closely related to other arthritic conditions. Why not give it a try ?

i have had FM for years. i avoid medicines like the plague! i don't mean to offend those who listen to their doctors who pass out prescriptions alot, but i go with a more natural approach. i do a high quality detox periodically, take HIGH QUALITY vitamins, fish oils, and eat healthy as much as possible. i work and am always busy. FM doesn't slow me down. i say find what works, then do it!!these work for me! :)

That would be a YES from me on the Fibro Q. I have ached all-over for longer than I care to recall and have recently 6months i spose, begun Tramal . It is for chronic pain and a synthetic opiod..The good thing I have found with it is my aches have lessened heaps and I have more energy now. I also enjoy Hydrotherpy- water exercise but I dont do the exercises I have to relax ,,,its wonderful :D
