Hi all-
My surgeon said the whole hubbub about CryoLife is really over the soft tissue stuff, which is processed differently than any other tissue.
His personal experience is that he has never seen an infected homograft, and doubts that he would ever see an infected synergraft becasuse of the de-population process. He did reiterate what the cardio said, that people who end up with these terrible infections, like the Minnesota guy who died, usually have compromised immune systems to begin with.
Also, he said that any infection would show in the first 4 weeks post-op, even some sneaky fungus.
Anyway, that's the story from my surgeon.
