Harry-

Joe has been feeling absolutely terrible for a while. He had some bloodwork today, his hematologist called and he is extremely anemic, just 2 points shy of needing a transfusion. He has hemolysis, where his mechanical valves chew up his blood. He's had it for a long time, and it's usually under control, but when he was in the hospital last time, they stopped his iron because it would interfere with his antibiotic. He has one more day left on the antibiotic (it was a 6 week course) then it's back on the iron and if things don't turn around in a couple of days, it's a transfusion for him. He's also on Procrit and folic acid.

You probably don't have that, but have you had your blood tested recently? Anemia can make you feel SOB, weak, tired, and make your heartrate go up.

Hi there, Harry!!

Hi Harry! I've just read your posts and I'm so sorry to hear that you haven't been feeling very well. I was wondering why you didn't join us for a chat yesterday and I hope you get better soon. I really miss chatting to you! I know what you mean about having Bandit because I feel exactly the same about my Milady! LOL!! Take care and keep in touch!

Hi Nancy,
I was told that I am anemic at a dr's appointment about a month back...I am guessing that this might go hand in hand with CHF? People also have been telling me that I am sweating like crazy and I am looking worn out....I have been trying to get into see my new PCP, but everytime I try they are busy, or they tell me they will call me and they never do....so I will be trying again in the morning to get into see him sometime this week. I am wondering though, can a person be anemic even though they are eating enough red meat? Harrybaby
:D :D :D :D

I don't know all the reasons that a person can become anemic, but if you were told that you were a month ago, and you were eating enough red meat, obviously there's more to it than what we eat. And it makes sense that you could still be anemic now.

I hope you are able to get it checked out. Anemia just makes everything else that much worse.

Thanks Bon....

I hope that the weather isn't too bad as my apartment started to flood out with the 10 days of rain we had last week...(Can we say Noah's Ark? LOL)...I have a funny feeling I am back in CHF, but we will overcome one way or another....How's your Daddy? I hope he's getting better and stronger every moment.....Your In My Prayers. Harrybaby

I hope that I get over this, but I think that maybe part of it is that I may be back in CHF as well, I have noticed that my coughing has come back, I cannot lay flat without losing my breath, and climbing the stairs, or even just standing up is causing me to get SOB, I hope the doc's will listen to me this time.....Harry

Oh Yes...I certainly do...

Oh Yes...I certainly do...

And I usually take an extra Lasix if I see my weight go up by 2-3 pounds.....and usually it helps, but sometimes I think that the lasix doesnt work at all...it's very infrequent that it doesn't work, but sometimes it's like the fluid is stuck.....Harrybaby

Harry,
I have that problem too now and then. I am convinced it is because I am not drinking enough water. If I drink a couple of glasses, the Lasix usually starts working. Water to get rid of water sounds odd but it works. I am sure there is some medical terms and reasons but I just know what happens.

Gee Bee, I am also wondering if...

I could be having touble getting rid of fluid because of my kidney's...they are starting to go because of the Diabetes (typical after having Diabetes for 12-15 years). Harrybaby666 :D :D :D

He's going to need a heart transplant Hensy? Please know he will be in my thoughts and prayers, and I know just how bad he is feeling....Blessings to you and to your cousin...Harrybaby :D :D :D

No, they talked about it but he won't go for that. They are going to do something to reduce the size of the heart - cut off a piece somehow, in the back. He just leaves it up to his doctor to make the arrangements so he's not up on the details! He trusts her - she's a personal friend; comes to his house to treat.

That's awesome that he has such a great relationship with his cardio and that she will come to his house to treat him...My father was told about 2 years ago that he needed to have a heart transplant, but since he has retired from his job the doctors have said that he can get by with his heart for the rest of his time on this earth. As for your cousin, I am sure glad that they have found a possible alternative for the heart transplant, as I am sure he must not want to go through all the hassle of the transplant. I hope for nothing but the best for your cousin and you as always. Your both in my prayers Hensy. Harrybaby

and the rest of the story. He's about 60ish, married a 20 y.o. about a yr ago. He just ain't ready to go yet. He's come close about a dozen times over the years, but he's stubborn and beats the odds every time. He's a believer in Nancy's 'never giv in and never give up'

Good for him, Hensylee. I truly believe that a "never give in" attitude can change things from dicey towards healing. Given the right medical care, caution in monitoring your own symptoms, calling the doctor sooner rather than later and allowing your body time to heal without getting panicky, can do a lot when the chips are way down.

I sure have seen that with Joe, over and over again. He's taught me a lot.

Hi there Hensy! Is your cousin having the Batista procedure then? I wish him all the best with whatever thdy choose to do to get him out of this situation!

Harry, you've always been a real fighter and an inspiration to all of us! Hope you're feeling a bit better by now.
