All the opiates can cause itching. At the time I think I chose the itchiness
over pain,but if your pain isn't that bad you would probably do well on
one of the milder pain meds. Best wishes - Dina

beta blockers or opiates come to mind. Beta blockers can promote an allergy that you didn't otherwise know you had.

I also got quite itchy on hydrocodone, and as soon as I could bear it (about 1 week after I got home) I was off it and the itching quickly went away. From then on I just took extra Aspirins and Ibuprofens only as needed. As long as I babied my incision and sternum, I didn't need to worry about pain (much) anyway.
