A new member, Sarahsunshine, asked if anyone had info about the benefits. I wondered if it had any bearing on maintaining a stable INR.
Anyone know?
I'm a dummy when it comes to ACT, but I do know enough to ask the experts.:smile2::wink2:

I have been taking CO Q10 for several years, about 200 mg each day. I haven't noticed any effect on Coumadin. Even if I did, I would continue taking it and make an adjustment in by dose of Coumadin, which I expect will be very minor.

I don't use Coumadin or CoQ10 (so I can't believe I'm actually answering this!) but it is a often listed supplement that impacts INR, decreasing the effectiveness of the Coumadin and leading to higher doses.

I'm with Herb. If a supplement is useful, you should be able to adjust your dosage so that your INR is in range even when taking the supplement. When you start the supplement (or when you stop it), you'll probably want to monitor your INR for changes by testing every few days. It may take a while to get the dosing right - but it's certainly possible.

Recently, I started taking a supplement and my INR dropped like a rock. Rather than continue with that supplement, I stopped using it and increased my dosage until I was in range. When I'm feeling a bit braver, I'll probably restart, but test more frequently, just to make sure I'm still in range (or adjust dosage until I am).

I took CoQ10 before I was diagnosed with aortic stenosis and need an ARV and graft, and I have continued taking it. My cardiologist knows what I am taking. Not a big deal for me.

Herb makes sense to me, too, regarding Coumadin.

However, COQ10 and beta blockers do contend with each other. The problem is, some people say you need the COQ10 to counteract the Coenzyme reduced by beta blocker usage, and some say it interferes with the function of the beta blockers. I haven't seen anything that really convinces me either way. Good luck with that.

Best wishes,
