Sunny

I want to express how glad I am to have found this site.
Reading about everyone's experiences has helped me to begin dealing with an important time in my life.

Thank you all very much!

Almost all of my questions have been answered just by looking around. I was wondering if anyone knows how to find the operating history of a doctor who works in Washington state. Any help would be greatly aprepciated. (sp?)

Contact the board of medical examiners for your state. Or ask the hospital he/she works at. By law they are to give you this information.

Hi Sunny, I have three good doctors...I live in Silverdale, about 50 miles north of you. My cardiologist, Dr. Doug Stewart is at the UWMC in Seattle, he's very good, and my surgeon, Dr. Edward Verrier is at the same place. They are both excellent doctors. I hope this helps!

Thank you medtronic and Joy. I will surely contact the hospital he works at. I will also try to talk with Dr. Verrier

Johnny Stephens, Mike Anthony, and Mainframe(chris) also used Dr. Verrier. If you call the cardiology clinic at (206)598-4300 they can transfer you to surgical specialties(where Dr. Verrier's Clinic is)He is cheif of cardiothoracic surgery, and he is a professor of cardiac surgery as well. I would try to find one of his cards, but we are moving, and it is hard to find anything in this mess! Good luck, and keep me posted as to who you decide to use!
Joy
P.S. by the way, Mike anthony posted that a website, www.bestdoctors.com listed Dr. Verrier as number 1 within 400 miles of seattle.

Hi Sunny-

Welcome to the site. You have lots of good cyber friends built in here. We all understand about valve surgery.

I'm happy to hear that you have been browsing around because there is a ton of info. on every aspect of living with valves.

Come on in often and share the fun.:)

Thank-you both very much! I hope I'll be able to contribute something in the future.

Sunny, I had my surgery at Swedish/Providence in Seattle. My cardio was Dr. Peter Albro and surgeon was Dr. Joe Teply. I highly rcommend both except Albro is so busy he never makes his appointment time. Even his nurse tells you that your going to wait for an hour. Why? He spends so much time with each patient which is certainly worth the wait. Joe Teply is also one of the doctors that spends lots of time with each patient. He is very friendly, not in a hurry and willing to talk in as geat of detail as you wish. He sure gave me confidence. He is from that line of surgeons that trained in Portland, Oregon. A good man!

I was satisfied with Swedish/Providence. They gave me a private room because thats all they have in the heart wing. Food was average, care was good and they were very helpful to my wife. My only criticism was about the size of their "hotel" rooms. These are for out of towners, patients and family, to rent prior to surgery and afterwards. The room is very small and cost almost $70 a day which is about double its worth. Parking is also high and in that neighborhood you dont want to park on the street. They are supposed to give a patient a daily rate of $7 but the attendants resisted by charging us twice that. It took a confrontatiion to resolve that problem. But then you are right there in the hospital so if convenience is worth sleeping in a mail box size room then... I dont know how this compares with UW.

Hi Sunny,

Verrier's phone number is (206) 685-3370 according to his card I got last year. :) More than satisfied with the experience at the UDUB, should you be so inclined.

Bob,

Albro was the the first cardio I saw. He basically told me I needed a mechanical and it seemed like it didn't matter that wasn't real high on my list. He seemed less than enthusiastic about a surgeion I was interested in seeing, but didn't give reason. All in all it wasn't a good appointment. Maybe that's why I've got a different cardio. :D Maybe Dr. Albro was having a bad day. I also had planned to talk to Dr. Gartman at Swedish as I had heard good things about him. After we met Verrier, I didn't feel the need to seek out another doc.

Chris

Thank you all.

Thank you all.

I'm sorry I did not reply sooner. My last Grandpa died on Saturday. He was only in a hospital in Bremerton for three days.
It was his time, he was in a lot of pain. His funeral will be sometime this week.
I have though, decided which doctors I'll go with. Their names are cardio, Michael Swisstak and surgeon, Joseph Austin. Dr. Austin works in Bellevue, he came highly reccomended (of course) by my father-in-law. My father-in-law had triple bypass performed by Dr. Austin 9-10 years ago. I feel very comfortable with him. Like mainframe the first cardiologist I saw broke the news to me about my valve needing to be replaced and he seemed really cold about it. When I was sitting there soaking this in with my wife, he seemed to just watch us like he was just waiting for us to leave. Dr. Swisstak took a generous amount of time with us to explain everything and got us in to see Dr. Austin 30 minutes later. That helped a lot! Needless to say it has been a busy couple of months.
I just want to get it all over with!
