Superman, I think most of us on here would tell you that the waiting before surgery is, in a lot of ways, the worst part of this whole thing. You are going to need surgery. Whether you have it next month or next year. If I were in your same shoes, knowing what I know now, I would definitely have surgery sooner rather than later. I'm sure that Ross would agree, he dissected before he ever reached that magic 5.0.
So, take a deep breath, put one foot in front of the other, and don't look back. You will be so grateful when it is all said and done and you don't have that monkey on your back anymore.
