Hi

I'm a year and a half post op. I too suffer from dizzy spells. Sometimes I can go for weeks without any and then out of the blue I get a dizzy turn. It only lasts for probably less than a minute and afterwards I feel fine. They certainly are not as bad as the ones I suffered pre op. These would be every week and afterwards I would feel nauseous and weak. The scary ones were when I was driving. Anyway I had my checkup after one year and three months. I mentioned the dizzy spells to the cardiologist. He sent me for an echo scan. The result was ok and he said that everything was as it should be and he didn't think the dizzy spells were heart related. My AVR was a pig valve so other than a mini asprin every second day I don't take any medication. Hope you find out the cause of your dizzy spells.

Peachie,
Sounds very similar to my experiences. I'm a year and 4 months post op. Get the dizzy spells irregularily and not often but you are right it is scarry when it happens when driving. (Spent three weeks in Scotland two summers ago at Aviemore and then in Portree on Skye

Hi Jennifer,

Don't know how I missed your post.
I am so sorry you are having this experience.

It's very coincidental....there are many of us with the same, ocular migraines. Recently mine have included some dizziness which have brought on associated anxiety. Have had all the tests and they can't find a thing:mad:

In my travels and research on line.....small chance the micro emobli could case this phenomenon. With no lasting effects and or evidence.

One day the medical field will have it figured out. It could be a simple matter of circulation. I would try to have a CT or MRI to rule out other possibilities.

Please keep us posted

Thanks to everyone for the thoughts. I was getting on the freeway yesterday and just as I was trying to merge into the fast traffic in afternoon rush hour I got one of my "spells". Had to pull over to the side and put on the hazard lights until it passed because I just couldn't navigate. Very scary. Only lasts about 2 minutes but it's enough to get you killed if it's at the wrong time.
We just recently switched health insurances; think I'm going to try a different neurologist since the last one didn't do me much good and there weren't many other choices in the "network."

Why does it happen on the freeway??

Why does it happen on the freeway??

Jennifer,

I ask myself why frequently???? Anxiety. Even if it is subconscious. Also you may need a good eye exam. Know I do!
Try detract your thoughts to something else when this happens on the freeway.

Shana's earlier post rang a bell. If I'm on a full dosage of beta blocker (Toprol) I tend to be heat intolerant, and can suffer from dizzy spells. If I cut back, then the heat intolerance and dizzys go away, but my BP starts to be a problem. Yesterday I split wood in the Southern Indiana heat. Today, I'm content to stay inside with the air conditioning near my easy chair when the dizzys start. Chris

headaches

headaches

This is very interesting since I have been getting dizzy spells and really bad headaches. I had one yesterday and had to come home from work. I slept around 14 hours which seemed to help. I have been trying to walk in the evening but the last time I got dizzy and had to sit on the curb for a few minutes. Kind of scared to go by myself. I am 6 mos. post op. I am not on a BB but Cardizem and Lanoxin and coumadin. My INR was 2.7 which is what they want with the replacement. I had migraines years ago but they stopped and now are starting again. The side of my face was so painful that it hurt to lay down. I am going to make an appointment with the Dr. to see if I can get some answers. Fix one thing and get another.

I know what you mean about scary - I was riding my ATV in the woods yesterday with a friend's grandson and got dizzy. I checked "The Pill Book" - both Lanoxin and Cardizem can cause headaches. You may need to get in your cardios face and force the action to find out which one is giving you fits. I know some docs don't like to spend time chasing side effects, but they will if you are persistant. Hope this helps, Chris

I think you are right about getting in the Cardio's face.I was on tenormin and dyazide prior to the surgery and that combination seemed to work. Have to talk to him about that. The Tenormin did make me tired but took it at night and that seemed to help. Had some serious bouts with afib after surgery that this is what they put me on. Actually took me off the Lanoxin right after surgery because it slowed the heart down too much and had to call in Crash team when I landed up on the bathroom floor. Couldn't take the pacemeker out for 10 days. After I got home I went out of sinus rythm and gave me Cardizen by IV so I guess this is why they kept me on it. I would love to take no drugs but Coumadin if possible but I can't see this happening for a while. Thanks,
