Okay if I'm reading this correctly: if you have a mech. valve and taken off coumadin for something like biopsy's, Upper and Lower GI's, and etc You have a very high chance of stroke. If you have A-fib high chance of stroke also. Does this all apply to us with Tissue valves also? Now I'm getting really nervous again about my biopsy next Tuesday.

I really believe the medical field have no clue what they do to folks when they say 10 days off the coumadin for items like this.

My PA at the Cardio office said " I could bridge you but you don't need that" and then the Imaging Center called yesturday to make sure I have come off the coumadin.

I really would like to tell them Okay if I have a stroke You have to come to my house feed the birds and dog, take care of my man, and do Everything that I do around here which is basically everything!

The idea of rebounding to a more likely to clot state was an idea of several decades ago. I don't think that it has been shown to actually occur with warfarin.

It is interesting though that Exanta (that was to be the warfarin replacement) probably did have a rebound effect. People took it for a few weeks to prevent blood clots in the legs after surgery and a few days after they stopped it there was a higher than normal risk of heart attack. This is one of the reasons that I think a warfarin repalcement is several years away because all others will now have to investigate this possibility.
