My family doctor says that's normal. I don't believe him. It's lots more noticeable at different times. I can feel a surge or gigantic pulse in my head at night or when I'm sleepy. I don't think I can time an echo to pick those up and figure the echo will show only a baseline that's not nearly as bad as it sometimes gets. Any suggestions before I see a cardiologist?

I suspect it's been there all along and you have noticed it for the first time because you have become aware of your heart.
I see mine when I haven't gained too many kilos

pellicle, do you have tricuspid regurgitation, or are you saying it's normal to sometimes see it? I have seen it on youtube but the ones they show are much more severe than mine. I'm wondering if another echo after having one in the 80's and one in the 90's that showed mild tricuspid valve regurgitation is worth doing. I have been aware of my heart since I started having the surges in 1998 after taking SSRI's that caused what one doctor thought was serotonin syndrome. I'm thinking maybe that made the mild TVR worse. After being aware of and concerned about the valve for 18 years, this is the first time I have noticed the pulse being visible.

The latter. And I saw it in my wife's neck too ... It's because the vein is close to the skin surface. You don't commonly see it on fat people because it's buried

Mild tricuspid regurgitation is a common echo finding and nothing to worry about. Just relax and trust your doctor.
