I will go and check if my credit cards have that symbol!! This is scary and I hope it can be prevented.

Look at the plus side, credit card numbers are in such abundance now that they really aren't worth anything anymore so the investment in the equipment to do this (even buying it off ebay where it is really cheap) is not worth it.
