Mary & Eric, it was so good to read your last report. I can only imagine your distress but I am so glad to hear that Eric has improved. Just to clarify one thing to ease your mind a little, you mentioned, Mary, that Eric had an allergy to formaldehyde. Tissue valves (including the BIOCOR) are stored in glutaraldehyde not formaldehyde. Glutaraldehyde has a distinctly different molecular structure from formaldehyde and even as it degrades does not produce formaldehyde. Also, the process of preparing the valve tissue effectively destroys the porcine DNA in the valve so that the human body does not recognize it as foreign.

I hope your trip home is uneventful and look forward to reading your next update. Both of you take care of yourselves.

Larry

Mentu,

thank you for that clarification on valve storage and DNA, wondered about why no rejection to foreign body and you had the answers.

so much to learn and so infomative, there is an amazing wealth of information available from the members on this forum

bless y'all for your contributions

Wow, Mary-

So good to hear the wonderful news. Hopefully, that is the last bump in the road and smooth sailing from now on.

BTW, many people have trivial leaks after this surgery and scar tissue eventually covers it, but that takes a little while to happen. So I hope this is the case for your husband.

Glad to read that your hubby is doing much better now! So sorry this went down when you were on vacation but all is not lost! At least he's on an upswing & perhaps you can take another little trip somewhere later when everything is settled & things get back to normal!

Stay well!

I'm relieved to read this, Mary. It sounds kind of like Kim's experience.
Hopefully it will be smooth sailing for Eric and you all, from here on out :)

And Larry, I too appreciated that information; thanks!
