Hello all,

My dad is 75 and he is having an AVR surgery on Nov 7 in Morristown Memorial Hospital in New Jersey. His surgeon is Dr. James Slater.

I live in Toronto, Canada, and will be going to my parents' on the 6th of November, to support them during this difficult time, and to be their English-Russian-English interpreter in the hospital.

Please keep your fingers crossed for my dad.

Regina

Sending your Dad and your family all best wishes, Regina.

If it is any comfort to you, hope you know that a great many people in their seventies and eighties do very well with this surgery. I know several people who were approaching 80 and they did great. They still live full, active lives.

Hope things go well. Please let us know.

Thank you all for your warm wishes, they really make a big difference for my family.
Hi Steve, the best of luck to you on Nov 7, I will remember to think of you on that day as well!

Hi Regina and welcome.
I've put your Dad's AVR date on the VR calendar here. Try not to worry, my cardiac room mates were all seniors
and they did better with recovery than I did. :) Really.

Hi Steve, wishing you a very speedy recovery after your surgery on the 7th, you will be in my thoughts. Please let us know that you are alright when you are back online. My dad's date moved to the 9th.

Thank you Bina. My dad has made it through the first night after the surgery. ICU nurses are saying that he is doing well. All warm wishes are greatly appreciated by my family!

Regina,
Glad to hear that your dad is recovering. Just remind him to take it slow and do what the hospital personnel advise him. Rest, eat, breathe, walk, then repeat, repeat, repeat... Sending positive vibes for your dad and your family.

These first couple of days can be rough and very tiring.....it gets better quickly after that.
Will keep pushing the good vibes in your direction. :)

Regina, all sorts of positive vibes and prayers coming from this side of the 49th ....look after yourself and family as well as this is a long period in the hockey game

Thanks everyone for your positive vibes! Dad's doctor and nurses are saying he is doing well.
He is very tired and a little confused still. When he is awake, he makes sense, but after short naps forgets stuff. I hope it is a temporary side effect of the anesthesia, because he was really sharp for his age before the procedure.
Before going back to my family in Toronto this Saturday night, and handing responsibility to my sister in law, I want to make sure he is on the right track.
