I posed a while ago about my Dad needing OHS to replace a faulty valve. He is finally scheduled and will have surgery this Thursday, assuming all goes well with his pre-op visit.

I am so anxious about him having surgery. He's in his young 70s and has diabetes. He also has not taken the best care of himself, so I worry about his health going into surgery and worry about how well he will take care of himself after surgery.

He is my only surviving parent and I don't want to lose him.

The stories on here about the success people have had with similar surgeries are comforting. I hope his goes as well.

Thanks for listening,
Mel

Mel,
Sending you and your dad some strong positive vibrations from So. Cal. I will be thinking about you both come Thursday. The surgery might knock your dad for a loop at first, but I'm sure with your help he will mend quite nicely and you will both have each other for many more years. Be a vocal advocate for your dad, ask lots of questions and keep as informed about what is going on as you can. Hugs to you both.

Mel, thinking of you and your Dad. I had my AVR at 66 and am now better than I have been for years. Sailing and doing all the fun stuff. A friend of mine had his AVR when he was 70 and now, 9 years later is taking on a 4X4 trip to Botswana and Zambia, and he is nearly 80! Your Dad will be fine and he will feel so much better after the operation, not immediately but it will get better day by day! Believe me!!
