well i have uploaed his pic on his profile if anyone wants to take a look he looks very swellon to me there trying to get him fully awake but i dont think hes ready to do that vent will stay on til tomarrow more then likely but every thing is going well

The swelling is VERY normal. The docs pump us full of fluids during and after the surgery. Since the "elimination" system is rather slow, swelling does occur. It will get better over the next couple of weeks.

I agree that the swelling is very typical. He'll certainly be kind of 'out of it' for a while - takes some time for the anesthesia to wear off and then there's the meds for pain that will make him a bit loopy. I sort of remember waking up - actually I remember the nurses yelling at me to cough as they removed the vent. I know my daughter was there but I sure don't remember seeing her. Sounds like things are progressing fairly normal for him. Best wishes for a good recovery with only little bumps.

well got a call 11:00pm, he woke up and is off the vent ,talking and asking for my husband first thing ,and not me what about that ,thats ok with me ,they said he really woke up faster then they thought he would, so machines started going off and they had to get the vent off asap , he was holding his breath and they kept telling him to breath he was scared, but ok now hes doing great going to try and get some sleep now its been a very very long day ,but a good one thank you god ,and to all of you for helping me and my family thru this time

Wow!! Good for him. I did not wake up so fast....now for the sitting up and then short walks. He's on his way. Now you all can relax!

Well good news then... I have been following your posts and am quite thrilled to hear that your dad is doing well and has a good leg up on his recovery. Please give my best to him and to your family. I know this has been quite a hard row to hoe. Don't forget to take care of yourselves. You dad is gonna need a little help once he is home. God Bless:)

dads trying to cough and cant, he ran a high fever but got it down this morning they sad today and tomarrow will be the worst for him thats the latest i know for now few bumps but for the most part he is doing well thanks to everyone and please continue the prayers for his breathing and to be able to cough update as there are changes

Ya that coughing business is the WORST!. Just tell your dad to take it easy a little and use his spirometer often if he was given one, it truly does help to get that gunk out of the lungs. God Bless You:)

update dad is up walking today, there really going to push him hard today, he is still in icu, mom talked like there going to send him home tomarrow, but i think there just going to move him out of icu ,there removing all tubes today to , so i dont know about the going home, i cant see that but who knows, hes doing real good thanks for the prayers i will update when he gets to come home,

Glad to hear your dad is on the mend.
They won't send him home straight from ICU, I don't think - but if he's moving to a ward he's definitely on his way!
Keeping you and your family in my thoughts!

Dads on his way home today hes had a few bumps in the road but not bad he still dont feel the greatest but maybe once hes home he will do better once again thanks to everyone for there help and prayers

I think your Dad was in the room next to me. I think that it might have been your mom in the cardiac rehab class with me? She had a southern accent, sorry to generalize.

I would have stopped in & said hello, but didn't know. I'm glad to hear that all is going well.
