Ready for prime time

Ready for prime time

I think virtual colonoscopy is ready for prime time. Its as accurate possibly more accurate than the standard procedure. Its little known but the standard procedure has a risk of perforation and deaths have been reported. Virtual requires no sedation and you can go right to work after the procedure. Most insurance still won't pay but this is changing. My only advice, go to a radiology group that has already done a lot of them. There is a learning
curve. My former group has been doing them now for three years
and they are getting pretty good.

One thing you can do is to start calling your insurance companies and ask about virtual colonoscopies, even if you do not need one yet. They keep track of what people are demanding. It may lead to them being introduced more widely and being cover sooner rather than later.

gosh, i sure learned a lot here...
joey's having his first colonoscopy this wed.
i found out that there are certain areas where the virtuals are done regularly; our are is not one of those, yet.
i will meniton the visicol to him, thanks duchess bear!
i hope all will be fine..

Had colonoscopy last Thurs. and everything went well although I'm still on Lovenox until tomorrow at least. Running out of spots to stick that darn needle. I'm glad I opted to go for bridge therapy because a polyp was found and removed. The whole procedure took 15 min. I am good for another 5 years and what a relief it's over with. The prep work is the pits! I also asked my doc about another method of "cleansing" and he said because of my heart surgery, he preferred the drink as apposed to the pills because he didn't want me to lose a lot of electrolites during the process. Not good for heart patients. So I guess I just grin and bear it until something better comes along.
