Hi Guys & Gals,
I came home yesterday! Thanks for all the prayers and best wishes they mean a lot. As my daughter told you they were able to repair my MVP.
The surgeon decided once he had a good look at the valve with the TEE (this correct?) that he would use the DaVinci rebot to preform the minimal invasive surgery
. He cut away my broke chord on the mitral valve and removed it. He then removed an extra cord and sutured it in place of the old one. He also prefomed a Maze. He did not have to do an atrium reduction procedure as it was not as enlarged as he thought.
I woke up around 5:30pm and could hear my family but could not open my eyes. The familiar voices and their talk of the surgery's success was a real blessing. Around 8:30pm I woke up and the tube was removed from my throat.
Friday I was allowed to sit in a chair for two hours. Thereafter I was taking 3 walks a day and sitting as desired.
The result of the procedure so far is that I am taking no blood pressure, beta blocker or coumidin. My heart has been in sinus rythm all but one 1 minute period during the past week which was shortly after surgery. Blood pressure is excellent. I am taking a dose of insuline each night to make certain my blood surgar stays low so the healing process will not be hindered. This will probably be ended in a couple of weeks.
I can not say enough good things about my health care team. My surgeon and his nurse saw me at least once a day (Somedays twice). My cardiologist and PCP also looked in daily.I received a call today from the hospital letting me know that my surgeon had signed me up for a twice a week visit by a nurse to check my vitals and make sure I was ok. She came out today and redressed the hole for the two chest tubes that were removed yesterday.
I was told by another surgeon that there are only a handfull of surgeons In Georgia that can do what mine did. Macon is lucky to have such a skilled surgeon.
I have an appointment to see the surgeon two weeks after the surgery. I expect to be given the ok to drive and return to work on that date.
Again thanks to the VR family.
