COVID in house

My daughter came home last night after a visit with friends in Las Vegas, Raider game and then Palm Springs. She drove home last night and early this am had 103 fever, so she did 2 COVID tests, both positive. She is immune compromised with many issues and I’m high risk from 3 ohs, a fib, leaky mitral valve. I just tested negative. I will be her caregiver as we live together.
Anyone done this and have suggestions?
This is our 1st COVID positive since it all started. Thanks. I’m just a bit concerned.

March 2020 I began working from home when COVID first began. My husband still went into the office and we were both diagnosed with COVID in February 2021. He is extremely healthy and takes no maintenance meds at all, but was extremely sick for over 2 weeks. I, on the other hand, have several health issues beside MVR and was well enough to work from my recliner every single day. My doctor‘s office called me every single day for 5 days to check on me,because they were a concerned, but I had no issues. One never knows how their body will react to the virus. You should probably keep as much distance from her when possible. As you will be her caregiver, that will not always be possible. When you must be near, it would be a good idea to mask up with a certified rated mask, either an N95 or Kn95 mask.

Because she is immunocompromised she may be eligible for an antiviral medication. You should check with her healthcare provider about that.

You should have her go in and get a prescription right away they have oral treatment for covid called
Paxlovid / Molnupiravir Rx You need to do it right away for the best outcome!

Thanks for the replies. She got Paxlovid yesterday and is having chest X-ray now. Waiting for call to schedule a special COVID infusion hopefully today. She’s pretty sick and can barely speak. I’m driving her in jeep w windows out and kn 95 masks for both.

Be sure to wash your hands and keep hand sanitizer on hand. Mask up and she should be fine in a few days. Good luck to your family at this time.

Well, I had fever of 100.4 yesterday along w cough, headache, aches. I took at home COVID test but it was negative.
Overnight I coughed a lot, at 5am fever of 100.9. Took rapid release Tylenol, robitussin dm, fed dog and cat and went back to bed. Now my fever is 99.5. Not sure what I have. I might go to urgent care for the different COVID test if my fever goes up again. My daughter still feels very bad, can only whisper. Paxlovid wasn’t such a super drug for her.
We’ve both had vaccines plus booster
In past. At least we aren’t in the hospital. Or if one of us has to go we won’t be worried about getting covid.

He’s giving me paxlovid. I’ll need to check inr every couple days. He’s also testing my throat. I’ll contact the Coumadin clinic pharmacist tomorrow.

Hello,

All I can say is that in my own case social distancing and N-95 mask helped. My son tested positive for Covid two days prior to planned surgery. I wore a N-95 mask, socially distanced and then moved out of the house for the night before.

It worked. I did three PCE tests in hospital, proceeded with surgery and never got Covid.

So I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

I recommend that you set up a separate area for yourself in the house where you can effectively socially distance, keep all the windows open and make sure you keep wearing that N-95 mask.

At about 8 weeks post op, I got a wicked head/chest cold that hung in for a couple of weeks. Low grade fever. Was starting to fear that pneumonia was setting in so we went to the ER. Tested negative COVID and flu by PCR. They also did a chest x-ray which was clear. The coughing was painful on the sternum as you have experienced. The Dr asked if I had chest pain and I said yes. So he wanted to rule out an MI, so he decided to check my troponin at 0, 1, and 4 hours, and it was fine. The whole visit took about 5 hours and I went home with a prescription for the cough and some peace of mind. Still took another week to get over the cough.

I lived with 2 Covid suffers at the same time. I wore an N95 mask when around them and had a bathroom and relaxation room to myself. I am still Covid-free. Good Luck.

A word of caution when purchasing an N95 mask- there are many counterfeits out there. Early in Covid I bought a pack of 20 from the only seller I could find, a Chinese company. When I checked their (TC) approval number, it turned out that they were counterfeit. Fortunately, I bought it with my Visa and was able to get a 100% refund.

I put a link below with instructions on how to verify if a mask is actually N95 certified. One quick give away is if the rubber bands wrapped around the ears and not around the head. For N95 certification, they are required to wrap around the head.

My INR was 4.8 on Tuesday. I started paxlovid on Sunday. The Coumadin pharmacist said to stop dose tues and 1/2 tab weds, recheck Friday.
She thought paxlovid lowered INR.
The Dr said the info was it could go up or down. Ha ha.

Strange that she would have thought that. Paxlovid is a a P450 inhibitor. Generally, a P450 inhibitor will interfere with warfarin clearnce, cause it to stay in your system longer and cause INR to go up. But, good that they checked your INR soon after administration and will continue to check frequently.

many people here (me included) have found that simply being sick alters INR response. I'd be cautious at attributing it to a drug that is not known for a clear response with a mechanism clearly laid out.

So I'd make a point adjustment and test again.
