I speculate that the escalation in the US has three main drivers. None of which has anything to do with politics. Overall, given how much isn’t/wasn’t known, I’ve been surprised at how leadership from all sides of the political spectrum have come together on this. Drivers in my uneducated opinion are:

Population 2-4 times the size of many of our peer nations.

Increasing availability of testing. Can only get positive tests from those who test.

People who aren’t taking shelter in place orders seriously and exposing both themselves and those who are sheltering when they return home.

I disagree that politics is not part of it. The fed and state governments dragged *** on locking things down. Quicker action would have severely limited the spread. Then once locked down sure people did not take it seriously and why would they when virtually every jurisdiction stated there was no penalty to ignoring the order, they were to "educate' the offender vs any summons, if only the speed limit were enforced that way.

And yes more tests drive the number of positives up, but forget the positive test results, look at the hospitalizations and deaths that is your real indicator.

Sure we have more people than Spain and Italy, but China has almost 4x the number we have and while they rule with an iron fist, it helped them get this under control there.

In the end the Genie is out of the bottle it is going to spread and kill, the sad thing is I suspect when this is over we will NOT have learned our lesson and many really good health care providers are going to switch professions since they risked their lives are we did very little here in US to really help them.

They rule with an iron fist and control information the same way. We have no way of knowing what their numbers are. Just what they tell us they are. China has stopped the spread or stopped sharing info?

Couldn’t help but notice North Korea has 0 cases. Perhaps Kim Jong-un’s style of leadership is something we could all benefit from?

We can all play Monday morning quarterback on this. Look at the mortality rates? A few days old. Is it driven by who’s testing? Quality of treatment? Where the illness is located?

Anyway, my thread and it’s supposed to be the lighter side. Fine to say one is spending their time analyzing data, but let’s leave the deeper discussions for elsewhere. How is everyone getting on after a week in solitary?

We stopped our gym membership and purchased a Peloton bike and the classes. That’s been fun and the kids are loving the scenic rides through National Parks and international on the big screen. They use this more than they ever used the Y. And my wife and I can still take our spin classes. Monthly, it’s cheaper than the gym membership was too.

I’m “social distancing” from my husband. He was exposed to an ICU patient who has been tested for Covid-19 but results aren’t back yet. The hospital’s infectious control nurse said we should maintain 6’ of distance, sleep in different rooms, use separate bathrooms. I’m upstairs, he’s downstairs, and the dog is so confused as to where he should sleep!

Hope your husband will be well, and you.

Good you have separate bathrooms - I wonder how people do who don't have separate ones - must have to be disinfecting handles and taps every time they use the bathroom !

We were supposed to go on a cruise April 21, out of Ft. Lauderdale Florida, on the Holland American ship named the Zaandam. That is obviously not going to happen. Recent news, the ship is off from transit in the Panama Canal, with a reported 4 dead from the Cvirus, A "rescue" ship, the Holland America Rotterdam, is on site with the Zaandam. God speed to them all. My daughter had it but it was mild and she is OK, she works in health care.

so.. sorry, should keep this light, but also please take this seriously.

I'll be working out in the garage to occupy my time.....

Other than cabin fever we have adapted decently. We both can work from home for this and each have our own office in the home. We get up our usual time to keep the routine going as normal. We have doing a lot of online delivered groceries. We had to run to her father's today to fix his TV and stopped at Whole Foods, which was stocked very well. We picked up our weekly produce and split. Most people were respecting social distance others were just selfless ***** either ducking in for sorting right next to me or hanging out checking every piece of produce. They had tape lines at the registers to show 6 door spacing. The cashier had gloves and asked the barber to let me bag my own.
kroger on the other hand last time I was there over a week ago was a disaster. Could not find any wiles or sanitizer for use as you enter or exit. People were right on top of each other.

at this point we are pretty much stocked up for 30 days other than produce and breads which we will either have delivered or dart in and out of Whole Foods.

Both are jobs are so busy that really other than being trapped in on weekends we don’t feel it that badly. Of course a lot of streaming. We are lucky that we have exercise gear in basement so out exercise routine has not changed.

been indoors for 2 weeks now...just going into the garden for a few hours for fresh air
doing a little work from home
been using my home gym alot...did another 10km this morning

aortic valve replacement that was due in the 1st half of this year, is ofcourse now postponed probably until next year

I am glad I had my valve done last April now just to avoid this virus.

Doing things I was going to do anyways reading books which I've been getting into as a hobby since 2018, starting my little garden, looking at potentially moving back to the States from Thailand, looking at property in America, watching the stock market trying to figure out any movies I can make, trying to find a girlfriend even in this craziness, working on my diet as usual I got on a low-fat Whole Foods plant-based vegan diet recently and it's wonderful. So I'm doing more and more cooking. Still walking exercising getting Outdoors while I still can grocery shopping running errands push-ups sit-ups meditation yoga going to start journaling again. Of course keeping up with the news both here in Bangkok and in Thailand as well as back in the States. Always looking for ways to keep myself safe from the virus but still get outside and enjoy life. Got tested for the virus a few days ago and thank God it came back negative but I'm still having respiratory issues but I'm sick of seeing doctors I'm just learning to accept what it is. So I can live with the fact that I'm 57 I don't have a job a career a girlfriend or wife I've never been married never had kids and I don't own property back in America on the one hand it's incredibly sad and I have no security in the on the other hand my life is simple. I live in a small condominium in Bangkok for only $300 a month.

anyone else here struggling with being single. I hear a lot of people using the word we I'm assuming they have a family or their coupled up. Would love to hear from the single people.

Exercising, walking the dog in our lovely big park, cooking, and recording a few songs which I'm putting up on Facebook. I call it the Captive Audience Concert Series lol. Been out at my hangar and flying a bit too, and hoping to do more of that, but a pesky head cold has limited that up to this point.
