Well, well, well, I knew I saw you before. Last time it was Smoothie, Cutiepie, and 4 others. Keep trying. I'll keep banning.

Ross,

Could you please explain your comments above? I do not understand why people have these multiple alias and what the reason for them getting banned is?

Sorry I am not well versed in this?

I'm curious about why folks have gotten banned, too.

Myself, I nearly got banned when I first came here because I didn't know that we're not supposed to post anything controversial or discuss politics. But I didn't get banned - just warned.

I shouldn't need to explain, but for your benefit and I'm sure, a few others that just don't get it, I will. That's not meant to sound mean, but some people no matter how many times you explain it too, still don't get it.

Hottie originally came to us as Sheylathomas, Adonis67, Smoothie, Cutepie and tried to register with one or two other names. The person insists they are not a Edwards valve rep, but that was exactly where they were posting from. We have two banning violations here, 1. Multiple profiles unauthorized and fictitious. 2. Advertising without authorization. We had unbanned and allowed Sheyla another chance, but it got out of control with some of the advice that was being given. Hence she/he or exactly whomever, is not welcome here.

If you haven't done so already, read the announcement at the top of any forum page and you'll see what it takes to get banned. We don't just ban because we can. There are always reasons that may not be evident to all of you. Most of the time, we will not share that information, so be content with what I'm telling you here please.

Ross,
Thanks for your vigilance. This place has been getting a little too much like a soap opera/reality show lately...

We can sleep well knowing you are on the job! ;)

I agree with Mark U. Thanks, Ross.

For some of you newer members, a few years ago we had someone who was pretending that he was going to commit suicide. Then a "brother" came on and said that he had done it.

That took a lot of energy out of the people who are real members. That energy could have been expended on people who really needed advice etc.

I try to be very careful that I do not advertise anything on here, even when it will be helpful to somebody. I send e-mails or private messages to avoid the appearance of using this site for personal gain.

Bruising Will be Bigger on warfarin

Bruising Will be Bigger on warfarin

I have had the pleasure of both porcine and mechanical valves done 11 years apart.
Going with the choices that require no warfarin for the first surgery is still the way I would go.
I really feel my 2nd surgery would not have been as hard if the stupid scab nurse hadn't given me a fluid overload during my cardiac cath procedure that was done to determine the leakage of the porcine.
It seems the tissue valves have really improved since mine was done in '89.
But, for your 2nd surgery, if needed, you still may have to have a mechanical.
But believe me, bruising on warfarin is huge. Just running into a corner, or a door knob, gigantic! Anything that was big before you go on warfarin, double it.
The doc says to avoid activites where getting banged up is likely. Now, some on this site do not bruise easily. I guess it depends on many things, one being platelet levels.
Also, you must get used to the sound of the mech valve, at night. This takes time, but eventually, you don't even hear it unless you really think about it.
I have only cut myself badly once in the 5 yrs I have been on warfarin.
I probably should've gone to get it stitched, but I didn't and it just took longer to stop bleeding, and to heal. Healing time is Always longer on warfarin.
That's my 3 cents worth.

I think the bruising aspect is very individual. I was a banana prior to Coumadin and I still am. I wouldn't say that my bruising is too much more pronounced. We got a new bed about 5 years ago. It had a footboard that stuck out more than we were used to and both my husband and I were always banging our legs on it. He bruised just as much as I did. We finally got used to the footboard.

I also think there is getting banged up and then there's getting "banged up". You want to avoid activities that have a good risk of head injury or serious injury is likely. I get pretty annoyed at hearing how doctors put so many activity restrictions on people on Coumadin. We get our valves replaced to live life - so that's exactly what we should do. I have not wrapped myself in bubble wrap for the last 13+ years. I wrestle with my 120 pound dog, and my 190 pound husband (the dog plays fair, the husband doesn't :D ) There may have been a time years ago right after surgery where I'd go "Oh, watch it. I'm on Coumadin." Now I'd just get laughed at.

I am just reading this today- I assume your surgery went well. I have been 9 years post my surgery and have no change to my lifestyle. Tried and true is the mechanical valve-Coumadin is easy to regulate.
Keep your chin up and your head in the game. This is not an insurmountable obstacle. As a matter of fact, if offered the option I would not change one aspect of my life (including the heart deal) This has made me who I am today!

Pig and cow envy

Pig and cow envy

Just wanted to let you know either choice made by you and your physician together is a great choice. I was kicking and screaming against a mechanical but ended up with one because my surgeon told me he did not want to go back into my chest after he replaced my bicuspid aortic valve AND ENTIRE ASCENDING AORTA. How can you logically argue with that? I have anger issues over it but rehab is helping me. :) Coumadin has been surprisingly easy for me. I eat what I want and I LOVE all the green stuff. So far my INR has varied very little which must mean I'm eating large amounts of the green stuff all the time. :) Believe me, any replacement is better than the situation you could be in without one.
