You know, of all the thing sthat COULD happen in a car accident, I think the dangers of coumadin therapy should be kinda low on the list.

I mean, obviously it's a concern and needs to be brought to the attention of any medical personel that might be treating you, however I'd be more worried about getting ejected from the car or where I got hit or other related problems.

Coumadin doesn't neccesarily make you bleed MORE from a cut, it just makes you bleed LONGER from it. Most emergency services are there on the scene of an accident within five to ten minutes of it being reported and even then, there are things you can do or others might do for you at the scene to help keep bleeding to a minimum.

I was hit a few months ago. Someone ran a redlight and put their left front right into the driver's side door and left front wheel well. A side-impact bag might have gone off on me if I had one though it wouldn't have been neccesary. The same might have gone off one my wife's side and that would have injured her even more than she was (she was tossed into her door from the force of the impact and banged up her hip and side some.)

I'm more worried about slicing a finger open while making dinner than bleeding out after a car accident.

Not that I'm really worried about slicing open a finger either!

I'm either foolish or stupid or both, not neccesarily in that order. :D

I have a package of Bleed-X in the glove compartment of my car, which seemed to be the best place to keep it. I look forward to an opportunity to try it out to see how it works, although I'd prefer that someone else volunteered to have it used on them.
I thought I might need to use it Tuesday. I bought a sixteen foot board at our local lumber yard, two blocks from home, and stuck the board into my car, sticking out the back end of the trunk. Then I used bungee cords to tie the trunk down. I'm still not sure what happened, but one of the bungee cords jumped up and slapped me upside the head -- actually put a gash above my right eye. I didn't know about the gash until I was driving out of the lumber yard and checked the rearview mirror. By the time I got home and got the board carried in (it's been raining in Michigan every five minutes or so, and I didn't want the board to get wet), it had stopped bleeding.
The storal of the morey is: I need air bags back by the trunk of my car.

cell phones

cell phones

Sue,
6 months ago it was made illegal in Britain to operate a cell phone whilst in charge of a vehicle. That means any time the engine is running, regardless of whether you're actually moving or not. The only phone you can use is a voice-activated one where you don't need to press any buttons or look down at the phone.
Of course, a lot of people still use their cell phones behind the wheel. It amazes me that they think they're in control - what if they need to change gear or brake suddenly?
I have one friend who occasionally phones me as he's driving along the road. As soon as I find out he's driving  I hang up on him!! He hasn't done it for a while now.
Gemma.

Actually, I once bought a car for the sole purpose that it did NOT have air bags. I have short arms and long legs, so I don't like having to sit that far back from my steering wheel. I have dual air bags, but the only reason we bought the car was because we got such a good deal on it. We also have a 2001 Jeep wrangler which we bought because we like to drive around with the top down. I really don't care if my car has air bags, because we dealt for years without them. We just drove carefully. Remember when cars didn't even have seat belts? I was in a crash once and WASN'T wearing my seatbelt, and THAT saved my life! Just let your kids choose the car they choose and trust them. I fully intend on letting my kids choose which one of our cars they choose, They'll be old, but oh well. I would like to get either one of two cars for my toy...A 2004 Dodge Dakota RT with the sport package and the 5.9L V8 engine, or a Two seater convertable with the sport package. Either or, it won't happen until we get the jeep and honda paid off, and I can pay cash for it.

As for the cell phone issue, I think that drivers need to have a hands free device. I don't go very far from home without my cell phone, but I actually bought it for my husband so I can get ahold of him or he can get ahold of me without borrowing someone elses cell. I've passed out and gotten severely injured( hypokalemia etc...) and since then I feel safer knowing I can get ahold of him when I need something. I do agree with you though, there was this accident not very long ago on I-5 and this woman had a phone book in her LAP! SHe crossed over the center line and was killed. Unfortunately, so was the other driver. Her cell phone was on the road. It isn't only cell phones though, what about the women who put on their makeup in the car! I have seen women puttling on eyeliner while driving. Nuts nuts nuts.

One VR.com member (John Cochran?) bought an athletic Chest Protector (inflatible umpire's type?) which he wore while driving shortly after surgery.

I wonder about head protection for those of us who do NOT have side air bags. Helmets anyone? (seriously)...
What type would be best?

'AL'

A roll cage would probably cost more than side air bags - and I don't know if it would fit in my Civic -
