Charles,
It sure sounds like Patsy dodged a huge bullet, being on Coumadin and having only one INR test done in 18 months. (Would someone please go get the smelling salts for Al and Ross!)

Simply put, it sounds like that Dr. (and I use that term loosly) didn't know his "bleep" from a hole in the ground. Your wife's INR could have been so high as to cause a really bad internal bleed, or so low that a clot could have been thrown (during the time she was at risk for clotting). People on Warfarin (Coumadin) should test once a month, at the very least.

Warfarin is a safe and very "livable" drug - when prescribed and monitored by educated people. In the hands of uneducated people it's a disaster waiting to happen, and why the drug has such a bad reputation among so many.

(on second thought, someone get me the smelling salts!)

Let us know about the murmer issue. Lots of people have them with no problems - then there's the people on this forum. But you found the right spot. Whatever the report - get 2nd and 3rd opinions to verify the 1st. Best Wishes!

I don't know a lot about the drug, but I do know any chemical that changes the clotting factor should be monitored! Seems like 18 months is a heckuva long time!!!!

On the murmur subject . . . when it comes to the heart I'm a firm believer in multiple opinions!

I'll let everyone know what happens. Patsy is not a computer person!:(

Thanks to all for the wonderful hospitality!
