I'm just here for the beer...

I'm just here for the beer...

My alcoholic intake is about as varied as it can get. I am not a 'consistant' person in any way, shape or form.

I have never found that alcohol increased my INR....even after ..well, several drinks. On the rare occasion where I would have five or so, still no change. ;)

I think a lot of hullabaloo is made about alcohol and vitamin K affecting your INR. I don't worry about either one....drink what I want, eat what I want and I remain steady between 2.5-4.5 and that's good enough for me.

And William....."THE Oktoberfest in Munchen" -- hey you haven't been to this little German town in Texas.. :D Ach die liebe!

And I can personally attest to the fact that Miss Rain can walk out of any Greek Restaurant in Chicago after a few ouzo's... ;)

Hi Janie, Tell me some details about the Oktorberfest in the Texas town. Is it a big fair atmosphere or something where the town goes wild? What town is it? I guess you could post the answer in Small Talk. Will

Hi Will

Hi Will

I see where you live in Tampa. I live in Helen Ga..in a Bavarian Village. We have Oktoberfest every year..starting at the end of Sept. thru first weekend in November. Lots of German beer, ect. We have a Festhall with dancing, ect. Just google..Helen, Ga. and find out the fun we have. :p Of course, rooms, ect. triple... :p Many tourist here those weekends. We are 1 hour North of Atlanta..in the beautiful Mountains of Northeast Georgia. :) Many small motels withend walking distance of everything..but, have to book early. Bonnie

New Braunfels, Texas home of the Schlitterbahn. That ought to be something after a few pints at Oktoberfest!!

Some of the clotting with artificial valves is due to the fact that they are not the same shape as natural ones and their flapping open and shut sets up eddy currents in the blood leading to stagnation.

On-X MAY have ongoing studies to see if they are OK without warfarin.

It is ongoing as we speak in germany (3 of 5 years I believe). Columbia University says they will begin theirs shortly after the completion of this one, and I would be on the top of the list because i'm only 25 and if it wasn't for a bad valve, I would be in great shape.

Even if it doesn't work out, with my On-X valve, my INR can go down to 1.7 before my cardiologist makes me take heparin shots.

If you are going to do a progressive Oktoberfest party, you can't forget the Oktoberfest in Cincinnati, a good old German town.
Nothing quite like bratwurst, sauerkraut and suds to keep the night fires burning.

Tells all about my little town... I think we should do a 'Progressive Party" of Oktoberfests...starting in Helen, GA http://www.helenchamber.com/oktoberfest.htm then down to New Braunfels, TX http://www.wurstfest.com/ ...right Bonnie and Al? What other towns could we 'hit?'
Janie,
I was present at the start of Octoberfest in Lacrosse, Wisconsin back in 1972. Lacrosse claims that they originated it, since they're part of the "beer brewing" state.
I remember walking down the street chasing a ten cent hot dog with a twenty-five cent beer. :D :D :D Five bucks bought a pretty good time. ;)

Ah, belly up to the bar!

Ah, belly up to the bar!

Hoboy Gina...Cincinnati really is a "good old German town." Look what those folks down at Oktoberfest according to this website: http://www.oktoberfest-zinzinnati.com/

87,542 metts
80,500 bratwurst
64,000 sauerkraut balls
56,250 sausages
24,640 potato pancakes
23,004 soft pretzels
20,000 cream puffs
16,002 strudel
6,000 jumbo pickles
3,600 lbs. sauerkraut
1,875 lbs. German potato salad
702 lbs. Limburger cheese
700 pigtails
400 pickled pigs feet

But they don't have "fried pickles" like Wurstfest does here... :D

And Mary...I've never been to Wisconsin, so we'll have to add it on to the "Progressive Oktoberfest" shindig..

I had been to Wisconsin one winter a few years ago and was very, very , very impressed with the number and selection of the local micro brews. Some were liquid heaven. The cheese was great too. Al, pints? pints? We are talking about liters here, this is the Oktoberfest you know! Will

Bonnie,

I love Helen. We used to trout fish behind the Flea Market. When my stepfather was alive we would trout fish,go back to our campground and fry them with butter. Nothing Better. We still go to OCtoberfest sometimes. But, it has gotten so crowded over the years
