Hi Guys and Gals.....
Yes, it's me again...LOL and I just wanted to post and get some opinions as to whether these issues could all be tied all together....

I woke up yesterday and today in an incredible amount of pain from my arthritis because of the cold, wet, snowy weather that we have received, and when I went to see my pain doctor and they took my blood pressure, the reading was sky high at 180/150....then after my visit and I got home, I went out for a bit this evening to visit a friend and I started to get really congested as I am now, and swelling up from the ankles to the stomach to the hands and fingers....I have read that inflammation can lead to cardiovascular problems and heart attacks...my question is do yall think that my arthritis pain could have lead to the high blood pressure and then to going back into CHF...My guess is yes, but I always feel comfortable with a second opinion from all you great people...

I can tell you that I don't feel well at all right now, as my severe coughing has come back, and my chest feels like it's filling up again, and I Hurt All Over, even with my pain meds in me.

Thanks for any ideas. Harrybaby666 :D :( :D

How 'bout the flu?

A LOT of that could just be flu symptoms and I know when I get sick, I tend to bring on more fluids because my diuretics seem to stop working...

Did your pain doc mention the possibility of seeing your primary care physician to rule out some illness?

Anything else besides the swelling and coughing? Fever? Nausea? Chills?

I don't know that much about arthritis but it doesn't sound like that would cause coughing, fluid retention, or high blood pressure (except that severe pain can raise BP...)

Harry,

Sorry to hear your CHF symptoms are visiting again.

Usually, when they're talking about inflammation causing heart attacks, I believe they are referring to the fact that the inflammation can cause lesions to expand in the arteries, if you already have them or are disposed toward them, and possibly break off, causing heart attack or stroke.

However, it's not outrageous to think that inflammation and pain could help trigger a bout of CHF as well, though it seems there would need to be another underlying cause as well. I just don't know. But I do feel bad for what you're going through - and Mary, as well.

Best wishes,

Nope, I don't have the chills, hot/cold feelings or nausea that go with the flu...what I did forget to mention in my post, however is that I did tell the pain doc that I have been wanting to sleep and sleep and sleep some more, and that I have also been feeling really weak, and I have already been told that I am anemic, so I know where that has come from at least...but other than the pain, and congestion in the chest, and the wanting to sleep all the time and weakness, I have no other symptoms...I will be contacting my Primary Dr. though as I have other issues (non cardiac or pain issues) going on....Harrybaby666

Hi Bob...

Hi Bob...

I have to tell ya...it's a royal pain in the caboose...LOL, and as I have said to Harpoon, I have noticed that I am wanting to sleep more and more and I have been feeling very week. and cough...oh my gosh, do I ever cough....It's like between the congestion and the coughing, you would think that I have a cold, but I don't. I have had COPD (lung disease) since birth, and I have also had a ton of Viral Infections, of which my father never took me to a doctor as a child so it was never really documented until I got to be of legal age and took myself to the doctor...anyway, I would LOVE to think it was just the flu, or a common cold, but alas, I know I am back in CHF.

I also think that the inflammation/cardio relation is nothing to sneeze at...or cough at or lose your breath over..LOL as I have really started to pay attention to how my body feels, and today, it was blatently obvious to me that somehow, my symptoms are all inter related somehow...Thanks for your support. I hold no scientific proof, but I firmly do believe that the inflamation can, as a primary source, cause blood pressure rise and possibly even CHF. Avasculitis? They are always watching me for it.

bronchitis

bronchitis

is doing the same to me.... I believe its related, love me

Hi Harry, don't have any info on this topic, but just wanted to tell you that I hope you are feeling better soon. So sorry you are so sick!

I agree Wholeheartedly Ross

I really believe this also Ross, because of what has been happening the past couple of days...and this morning my chest feels really heavy and just downright nasty...the SOB should be kicking in anytime now....Thanks for the support and info Ross..Harrybaby :D :D

I thought so at first Yaps, but I have found that when my CHF starts in, that is the same time that my excessive coughing starts in, and when the CHF goes away, so does the severe coughing...but, I do know about bronchitis as well because I constantly had it growing up, and I know that it's non stop coughing and it gets so bad that sometimes you pull a muscle over it...Thanks for the tip though...Harrybaby666 :D :D :D

Harry, sleeping is a good way for your body to heal itself!

Glad you are doing OK with your sleep apnea. I am not doing so well. I cannot tolerate the CPAP, and am currently trying a transitional type of dental appliance which I don't think works as well in terms of controlling the apnea. But there is another one called the "Silencer" which we may "spring" for and hope that it works. It is supposed to be much better. None of this is covered by insurance as it is all considered dental! Ah well, at least there may be an answer. Between the Apnea and the RLS/PLMD I don't remember what it is like to sleep!

Enjoy your sleep!

Feel better!

lol..the

lol..the

silencer..sounds scary, my John has apnea and he has the full mask..lol..Im always putting it back on him....

Any chance that this could be some kind of allergic reaction to your pain meds? Perhaps they have a complicated inter-reaction with all of your other medications. I did come on suddenly.

Hi Yaps, Sorry that John has sleep apnea! I have the full mask also, and I can certainly understand why you are always having to put it back on him! It leaks and is really hard to work with!

The silencer may sound a little scary, but it is just a "mandibular advancement appliance" which means that it pulls your lower jaw forward just a bit. That allows the airway to stay open. It looks sort of like the invisible braces, except that it has a hinge that holds the top and bottom together, which can be adjusted to the degree of advancement that you need.

If John continues to have lots of problems with the CPAP, maybe you should see if there is a sleep dentist near you who could work with John on an appliance. It is a heck of a lot more comfortable than the CPAP....just makes your teeth feel a little funny/painful at first, but it seems to go away.

If I get it I'll let you know how it works out!

What could have happened is with arthritis pain, there was influmation. When one is in pain, BP will go up. When I had flairups in my legs, my BP would go up due to pain. That is all I can think of, unless others have added more experience. Good luck.

I think that is what has happened, only it has gone to the extreme, and it has put me back in heart failure again.....and I know that it is what has happened because I am congested again, my ankles have swollen up again and my hands/fingers, and I am coughing more and more and my BP had shot to 180/150...which obviously isn't good.....What a pain in the.......LOL You fill in the blank...LOL I hope your's doesn't get to my level....Take Care, Harrybaby666

Sorry to hear you've not been feelling so well Harry. If your body is telling you it needs sleep, then get as much as you can! I've had days in the past where I've pretty much slept for 24hrs straight because I've needed it (..I've had to call in sick, but I figure if you need that much sleep, something is up anyway..). I hope you start feeling better again soon.

All the best,
Anna : )
