I hope everyone has all the chocolates and confections out if the way:D... I think we have a month or more be for the next holiday/celebration of some sort but then again I have never needed a special occasion to eat:D

I know we have a few folks taking a break but we also have a few that seem to have fallen off the face of the map (ThrowDown wise)... It is expected to have some drop out and to gain some. Changing lifestyles is never easy and can seem impossible at times. We have all invested a lot of blood, sweat and tears in this thing....I want to encourage everyone to hang in there and as always we welcome new comers...I think that we are through the tough time of the year...spring is right around the corner...Bikini and Speedo(sp?) season is fast approaching so lets get to losing:) ....I hope everyone has had a successful week....each day is a new begining...we can do it!!!!

I have been good this week eating healthy. But, I just can't make myself exercise. The doctor said if I would just walk twice a day for thirty minutes at a brisk pace he would be happy. I know you said you hate exercise, too. What can I do to motivate myself. I don't have time in the morning and I am too lazy at night. I know I need the exercise but if my husband gets off the treadmill and says your turn, it just makes me not want to do it that much more. I am 57. I swim in the summer but winter exercise just does not excite me.

No one else can provide your motivation. It must be self-induced or it will not happen. Ask yourself what motivates you to do other things. What do you like to do and how do you fit that into your life? Then figure out a way to do that while getting exercise. Now if your preference runs to quilting then it isn't possible to combine the two but there must be something you like doing that can be done at a higher intensity.

No time? No time is always everyone's excuse. It's a cop out. You need to make time by taking it away from something else less important. Do you watch an hour of TV each day? That's a complete waste of anyone's time and can be replaced with something more active.

Age 57. Well I'm 60 and my wife is 59 and we workout regularly so age has nothing to do with it. We grew up at a time when girls didn't have gym classes, in fact were discouraged from doing anything physical. I know the younger women here will be incredulous but it's true. There were no sports or Phys Ed in our high school for girls at all. And yet my wife fit regular workouts into her schedule after age 50 to battle osteoporosis (and it worked).

Hi Sue?..You are right?I don?t/didn?t like to exercise?. I agree with some of what Jack said?. Age is not a limiting factor, it may limit the intensity but everyone can begin somewhere?. At age 60 Jack is a runner, at age 52 (almost) I don?t ever expect to be a runner?. I have recently started walking every morning (Monday through Friday) for 30 minutes. I just made the decision that after my wife left for work that I would head to the mall and get my walk in and over with?. I know myself pretty well and I know that there is no way that I will do it after work?. That brings up a point that is important to me. The mall is comfortable?.not to hot and not to cold. I don?t think I would keep it up if I had to brave the elements?.The motivation is another point that I agree with Jack on. No one ever makes a significant change in any area of their life without making a decision to do so, I will share my reasons with you but keep in mind that they are mine, not yours. Number one is that I saw the need to lose weight and get in reasonable shape and I could not accomplish that without exercise. Number two is that as I age it gets harder and harder to maintain my flexibility and joint health and I know that exercise will help in both of those areas? And number three I have noticed that it gives me an overall feeling of well being, which did not happen the first two or three days, but it happened?I know that two weeks is not a great track record (pun intended) but it is a good start, for me?.If it becomes important enough to you will find an exercise routine that works for you, if does not become important, you won?t.

I have made several major lifestyle changes in the past three years, some before my AVR and some after? They all were all hard and did not come without a decision being made and some amount of sacrifice?.and none of them happened over night?.it took time and work?.I wish you well and I know you will find what is right for ?you? if you keep searching.

Sue, do you have a neighbor who is also looking to start a walking program?
If you had a friend to walk with, it could become more enjoyable for you. Also, I don't know where you walk, but there is safety as well as motivation in having a buddy system. Good luck! (Another option: a companionable dog. Sadie makes sure I walk every day!):)

Hi Guys:

I fell off the Throw Down wagon last week! I was really busy and checked in quickly and couldn't find the thread! So in the interest of total disclosure: I was up 1/2 pound last week, which put me at 150.5. I'm really hoping for 149 this week, but yesterday's peek was not very hopeful!

Sue (hmmm..."TerryJ" is "Sue"???), I can relate. I forced myself to walk for an hour on the dreadmill on Tuesday. I'll walk again today (now that I've said it, I have to). Maybe it has to do with valentine's day chocolate goodies I've been getting together for my kids; it's been difficult to behave myself in the kitchen lately!

See you all tomorrow. Stay strong!

I'm still on the quest to lose fifteen pounds, but I have stopped "officially" weighing in on the Friday Throw Down.
I did send a donation to Hank . . . . kind of a "wish I had lost 15 pounds" type thing,;) :p and I will continue rooting for everyone participating:)

I have not really participated in your "throw down" but have been working at losing some weight since early summer and have managed to go from around 290# to 250#. I feel alot better than I had been.......nice to put on some old clothes that had been stored away due to my fat a**! ( I mean belly)

Okay, so I didn't get the job, so there was no need to try to fit into my 'work jeans'. BUT I now have found a sure fire way to loss the weight. Get sick with bronchitis for 10 days. I've lost 6lbs and the jeans now fit :D
No, seriously I don't want anyone to get sick - in fact I think/know thats how I got sick. I worked too hard to shed the pounds and wore my body down.
Chalk it up to stupidity.

I wish you all the best.

Well I was down .2 on my Weight Watcher's scale this morning. Not great, but the good thing is that we are walking more. We both try to get in 4-5 days a week for about an hour each day. We take the dogs with us, so they're sufficiently tired, too. I'm in the process of reading Dr. Oz's book You and Aging. He says we should walk 7 days a week for 1/2 hour each. When you really think about it, it's not all that bad, it's just finding the time and the motivation to do so.

Good luck everyone.

Evelyn

Ref: Don't forsake us! Okay if you don't want to weigh in for a while, but we need your guidance. Who else can keep The Chimp in line? :p :p

I am going to send in my donation, too. Will do so by the end of February. SUPERBOB is hoping to use his superpowers to shed a few more pounds this month. Had a regular doc's appointment today, and nurse and doc are impressed with the weight-loss progress (and probably surprised too). :D ;)

Hey Ben....great job...come on and throw in with the Throw Down:D :D ...All are welcome!!!

My scales are teasing me...I'm sure they are stuck at 71.7 kg (158 lbs)... I cant eat any less than I already eat so maybe this is how I am going to be forced to move my lazy behind. I am gonna put the cross-trainer in front of the TV so I can exercise while I watch Australia's biggest loser!...

Congrats to Ben for a marvellous effort, 40 pounds gone is awesome!!!.

Well done to all our Losers.

It's doubtful I'll see a loss this week. We've eaten out every night! Not tonight, though... I'm planning to cook. Not exactly sure what it is I'm cooking, but I got a bunch of ingredients at the store and hope they'll come together to form something tasty. If I just put them in the fridge together, do you think they'll just mingle on their own??? :D

Seriously, though, I'm not sure if I should weigh in tomorrow. I've been suffering from some major depression the last couple of weeks, and the fact that the scale isn't moving (at least not in the direction I'd like) isn't helping. And of course, the more depressed I get, the more I eat... It's a vicious cycle!

I probably WILL weigh in tomorrow, but thought I'd warn you if I sound particularly frustrated when I report in ('cause if I weigh, I'll report). We'll see what happens...

Well from 122kg last week to 120.5kg this week.

So to translate to US thats. 269lbs to 265.7lbs or 3.3lbs loss...y'all.

Its my second week on the 'new scales' so at least i'm moving downwards...god know's what i actually weighed at the start....for 4 weeks i just constantly weighed 120kg on the scales and when i go the new ones i weighed 122kg....i think the old scales just went to 120 and gave up....so i could have been heavier and constantly loosing a little over the past 2 months (thats what i'm telling myself anyway)

Funnily this has been my first slack week, i haven't exercised and have been in a three day meeting at work where i've been weakened over the constant supply of food & snacks and have partaken a little.

Good luck to everyone.

I'm up today because I'm down. Minus one pound from a week ago. I've been on a seesaw the last two months and this is the first time since before Xmas that I've been able to put down two weeks of negative numbers. Now I'm back to my pre-holidays low, so hoping next week can bring me into new territory.

The walking seems to be paying off:) ....and is getting easier and more enjoyable:eek:

SUPERBOB has trained all his superpowers on these blasted scales and they will not budge! They must have been diabolically devised by Lex Luthor of the Injustice League.

No scones this week, yet no change on the scales. Watch out, Lex, the Man of Steel is coming after you and your rigged scales! :p

Meanwhile, SUPERBOB congratulates all who have lost or just hung in there! :) Cooker and Magic, good losses!
