After his latest doctor's checkup, Superbob is resolved to get serious about trimming 10 pounds (he is setting a doable goal). Yes, the doc's scales lie, but no not that much. SB is wondering what to do -- he is surrounded by burger joints, ice cream parlors, KFCs, all-you-can-eat fried seafood buffets, bakeries, and doughnut shoppes. His DW, understandably, doesn't like to cook in as much as she once did, and for us to dine on SB-prepared food would be hazardous. How to eat healthy while on the go, that is the question. (SB does have a dawg who is heavily lobbying already for a second walk of the day, and who got all excited when I used the word" beach" in the same sentence with "walk." Guess it's true SB would weigh 400 pounds were it not for Superdawg.) :D

So far so good:thumbup: ... I have not had a single bite of processed sugar (cake, pie, candy etc) and it seems to be slowly paying off ......

............. We need a big rain and wind storm for two or three days ... None in the forecast.:rolleyes2:

Me too...I have been able to stay away from sugar despite the cravings, and I feel much better in every sense.

Will try to send to you some of our rain and storms!! It has been a very unusual long winter for So. CA. and I am starting to get bored of it! Rain rain rain rain and wind so strong that blew off our patio umbrella.

Weightwise, I have been up and down and up and down and up and down; yet better than only gaining!!:frown2:

SuperBob ... eating healthy on the run is hard ... There are many healthy choices but in my opinion they are boring after about the third bite ... my Achilles heal is sweets but I love fried seafood, pizza, burgers, pasta .....

What has been working for me (last 4 days) is to eat a substantial healthy breakfast, later in the morning if possible ... how long I can do this and not run back to Egg McMuffins, donuts etc is unknown ..... it's not who I am and I don't know if I can become that kind of eater ....

Anyone ever try Nutrisystem?

I have a friend that has can and does lose weight on Nutrisystem ... She also gains weight as soon as she gets off of it ... I talked extensively with her about it a year ago when I was considering giving it a try and decided that it was nothing more than proper eating and that I had no reason to think I would stay with it any longer than anything else ... IMHO it is expensive and one can do just as well with good meal and snack planning ... exercise is also a part of the Nutrisystem plan, go figure:rolleyes2:

Anyone ever try Nutrisystem?

Cindy's niece is on Nutrisystem. She likes it and is doing well, I hear. I haven't seen her since she started. The positive thing with them is that they have different food plans and they also have dessert. I'd consider it if they had a gluten free option.

I hear via the grapevine that Cooker's better half makes a mean fruit salad. Can you share it with us?

I tried Subway's egg white omelet on flatbread (added cheese and olives as extras, 185 calories) and it is delicious! It's also very filling.

I saw a program yesterday that discussed good, healthy snack alternatives. Kozy Shack has a new pudding one. Have you tried it Wise?

I love Kozy Shack's rice pudding. Alas, now that I'm not supposed to eat dairy foods, no more for me. SB, Kozy Shack sells a sugar free rice pudding that is delicious.

Here's a quick and easy recipe that is tasty and even a superhero can do it!

Taco Salad: We brown a pound of lean ground beef or ground turkey, drain it and then add a packet of taco seasoning per directions. Prepare some leaf lettuce and put on plate. Top that with good quality tortilla chips (broken up by hand). Top with the meat. Top that with salsa (we use Newman's Own medium thick salsa). Top with a lite shredded cheese (we use a non-dairy cheese, of course). Of course you can add diced onion or whatever else you'd like.

We have found this to be a good way to get in some green leafies and have something tasty too. It's easy to make, which helps.

I get to weigh at the doctor's office today SB. Seems to be an epidemic. I know it will be up from last visit. How do you gain weight without gluten and dairy? You eat more sugar. Seems that I need to join the sugar free group. That's the one thing the doctor said to give up that I conveniently ignored. Ugh.

Also, I know this is nothing, but my new chiropractor took xrays which show what he thinks are calcified nodes in my lung. No biggie if that's the case. Take the xrays with me to the doc today to get his opinion.

Thanks for the tasty-sounding recipe and the Subway advice. Keep them tips coming!:D

Wise, I feel your pain! Best of luck on the doc's visit. Our GP from the time we moved here had to move back to Missouri because he hadn't been able to sell his home there and paying for two residences was too much, esp with his wife expecting. My DW especially misses him. But our new doc in the same practice seems to be just as good, very attentive. He's zeroed in now on a decline in my hemoglobin, and has found it's not the result of iron deficiency. So other tests are soon to come. Makes for a little uneasiness, but it's good to have a doc looking to catch any problems early. He also accepted my request for a referral to a new cardio, though I have not yet heard from the new cardio's office.

Very much hoping those calicified nodes in your lung are just routine, nothing alarming, Wise. Let us know.

I've got the same calcification in my lungs, Wise. The radiologist made note of them a few years ago after a CT scan, and I was concerned. Since Bob works with pulmonologists, he mentioned my concern, and they pulled up an earlier CT, checked the size of the nodules on both, found there was no difference in size, and declared it to be a non-issue. I was greatly relieved. Hoping yours are also a no-big-deal.

Had delicious shellfish trio tonight: shrimp, crabcake, lobster tail, with zucchini and small portion of cheddar mashed potatoes as sides. No dessert. Yummy. Not too bad for the Throwdown, I think. :D

That's encouraging to hear Mary. Thanks for sharing that with me. The doc does think they're no-big-deal, but has ordered a chest xray just to be on the safe side.

I decided to go back and see what I weighed a year ago and, well, it was disheartening to say the very least ... On 3/26/10 I reported a weight of 189, this morning I weighed 205 ... Anyway you slice it I weigh 16 pound more this year than last ... Now I'm down two pounds so far this week (207 to 205) from just eliminating sugary foods ... numbers do not lie and it seems I need to rethink this entire deal....

This post has no purpose other that to express my disgust ... I guess without the Throwdown I would be back where I started, would have missed out on much fun and fellowship ... it is what it is and could be worse ... Gosh I could use a donut....

Good to hear that the doc thinks it's no biggie, Wise. Let us know how everything's going.

As for you Mr. Chimp, are you sure you're not closer to your maintainable weight now than you were a year ago? Don't beat up on yourself so much; you've have still trimmed a bunch since the TD began. News bulletin: We are not 21 any more. :D We may not be able to attain our 21-year-old weighs. Just my humble opinion.
