I remember the days when I was a single guy (waaaaaay waaaaaay back), and went out to a local steakhouse and got steak for dinner practically every night. Not smart but those sure were great steaks.

I remember in our young married days when we had a big ol' beef roast practically every Sunday.

Well, things have changed (prices for one thing), but we haven't given up beef, and don't intend to. At least once a week, DW and I will buy one ribeye steak, broil it, and split it between us. Lean beef not only tastes good; it is high in protein, and for a couple of medical reasons I am advised to eat plenty of protein.

I also love pork tenderloin, which we have on occasion.

Occasional guilty pleasure: a big ol' burger at Red Robin, or broiled chops at Logan's, or even a Big Mac at the Golden Arches. Of course a hot dog at baseball games.

Yes, we also eat chicken and a lot of broiled seafood.

But I never intend to give up beef (or pork) entirely. Life is too short to live in state of deprivation.;)

SB - We haven't given it up. We've just cut way down on red meat. That way, when we do have some, we really enjoy it.

We also have one of the region's favorite hot dog places a couple of miles from home. We make an annual pilgrimage there in the spring. YUM - and the place is called SUPERDAWG!

I didn't mean to target my thought at you, Steve. I was just moving the discussion along. :D Actually I was wallowing in nostalgia ---comparing my old days with new days, I too eat drastically less red meat now -- and that is no doubt a good trend. But I like the idea of really enjoying it when we do indulge.

Superdawg -- I love that name. Of course Chicago is justly famed for its style of hot dog. Sonic makes a Chicago Dog that tastes good to me (though I have no basis of comparison with the real deal you might get at Superdawg or other eateries there.) I have to be very sparing bout indulging at Sonic, too, because I could quickly forfeit my Throwndown "gains" (losses) there. An once in a while treat.
