Up 4 pounds this week.... That pretty much sucks but it is what it is ... Hope you had a better week than I did ... self control, NOT!!!

2013 Starting Weight: 231
Last Week: 228.0
This Week: 232.0

Activity: swim 2.2 miles

I'm going to put off weighing until tomorrow morning if that's ok with everyone. I have had a pretty good week, and I have been walking, so hopefully that will translate into a loss.
Cooker, did the Girl Scout cookies do you in? We have 8 boxes, thanks to granddaughter Haley's awesome sales pitch, and it has been hard to ignore them.

I seem to be stuck these days. This morning I was back up to 165.0, after starting the year at 164.6. This amount of change is just fluid, so I haven't made any progress. On the other hand, I used to always gain weight during the winter, so if I stay static this winter I will call it a win. Then over the warmer month, I may get to shed a pound or two.
I got to the gym most days this week, but not yet today. I'll post later with the week's mileage, after today's visit.

Mr. Chimp - with that much gain in a week, are you watching your fluids and sodium? It would take lots of cake to make that gain take place, but not much sodium.

Superbob will weigh in tomorrow, or maybe Saturday as he did last week. Expect no stunning breakthroughs. Having trouble getting in the right frame of mind.

Actually SB's not all that surly -- just looked like maybe a pound in the wrong direction this morning. Gotta remember such fluctuations are normal. Will eat Subway again tonight as did the night before the good report a week ago. If that does the trick again, I may eat Subway every day rest of the year : )

I wanted to let you know that SuperBob will be taking the helm for a while ... I find myself very busy and I need to step away for a bit ... I will stop in from time to time and may even report some weight stats ... Bob and Mary know how to reach me if needed ....

Carry on and keep on losing!!!

PS: this has nothing to do with weight gain or loss ... it is strictly schedule driven ...

Me thinks that Mary needs to send me some of those GS cookies, i don't gots any.......Hopefully the Chimp and SuperBob don't intercept them.
O yeah, watch out for that sodium intake, it is a killer for retaining fluids.

I have not seen any Girl Scout cookies around here this year -- and that's fine with me because I've gotten so I don't like them. They had a sugar-free one for one year, I think; it was pretty good but they dropped it. So no such thing as a healthy GS cookie.

Cooker's Throwdown Friday ... 3-1-13

We ordered some GS cookies, but that little neighbor girl hasn't come back yet. The only saving grace about them is that they are small...not like the cookies my daughter baked and called me at work to tell me, "Daddy and Me made cookies as big as my FACE!"

Although small cookies is only helpful if you can refrain from eating the whole box at once!

I'm down another whopping 0.2 pounds this week which makes about 3 pounds down from my high point. Still up 7 pounds from where I started after surgery and 13 pounds above my goal.

I got an Active Link from Weight Watcher's today to measure activity and help ensure I at least hit a baseline daily. For 8 days, I will be in an assessment phase, so I'm not supposed to do more activity than normal. What a great excuse huh???

Drum roll, please....

Superbob's starting weight for 2013: 265 pounds

Superbob's weight this morning: 257.1

Net loss for year so far: 7.9 pounds

Okay, task now is to get in the mid-250s, establish it as new normal, then set a new goal.

Another goal: buy some new slacks before current ones fall down at embarrassing moment. :tongue2:

I'm concentrating on eating protein as my orthopedic surgeon advised, in prep for the knee replacement. So maybe that conscious effort is helping.

Walking what I can everyday, thanks to Superdawg, but at a limp-along pace. Hopefully there will come a time when I can again walk 3 miles pain-free, instead of 3/4 of a mile, hurting.

Congrats, Mom2izzy; congrats, Superbob!

Bob, you knocked the heck out of the 260's plateau! I am impressed and pleased by your success.:smile2:

My week was so-so. Although I possess a strong desire to lose the weight, I'm obviously lacking in the execution.:tongue2:
This week's weight is the same as last's week weight: 151
Miles walked: 5.1

In defense of my limited exercise, I will say that our weather has been incredibly crappy the past week and too wet/slick/cold to walk. I could have gone to the gym, but I lacked motivation to circle around the indoor track.
Maybe this week . . .

Congrats SB! Hip hip hooray! Virtual confetti falling in celebration of your milestone achievement!

Congrats mom2izzy. A loss is a loss is a loss is a loss!

Duffey, congrats to you too, because you maintained. That isn't always easy to do.

Cooker, hope life allows you to pop in and "see" us often. Don't worry, I believe you've left the place in four very capable hands. Prayers offered for you; time pressures are stressful.

Oh, I forgot. I weigh 187.1, which is a .4 pound gain. I think I'm just balancing out my unexpected good loss of last week. I have a total loss of 7.4 lbs.

A bit of news. My Colombian friend and language study partner, Edwin, will be coming to Louisville to visit for about a month. He wants to establish business contacts and possibly land some contracts to develop websites and/or software. I will get a lot of in person Spanish practice then and I'm stoked. Cindy and I will be showing him around the city and getting to know him better.

Been awfully quiet here. Since I am supposed to be standing in for the wayward Chimp, thought I would try to stir things up.

How about some yummy Mediterranean vittles stirred up?

I think we've come around a long way toward Med here -- DW cooks with extra virgin olive oil, we love nuts (insert Bina's warning here), eat a lot of broiled fish, and fruit and veggies are always welcome. My problem is I add too much other stuff, but I'm trying to cut down on mindless snacking.

My doc is saying go low-fat (at least he's told DW that), but I look at Mediterranean and I think maybe not necessarily so -- not if you eat the right kinds of fats.

Thoughts?

If you're eating fats that actually reduce cholesterol, i.e. olive oil, coconut oil, then I think your doc would be pleased. Sounds like a good plan to me!

Broiled salmon, rice, three-bean salad for dinner; apple for an evening snack -- Superbob stays on track.

Walking maybe 3/4 of a mile every day -- hope after rehab will be able to walk at least 3 miles a day.

We've unintentionally followed the Mediterranean diet for years. I was never a fan of red meat, so chicken and fish have been a meal staple for years. Olive oil, red wine, nuts, fruits, veggies, brown rice and legumes round off the weekly grocery list. One thing we've not done is to use extra virgin olive oil, so that will change.
If we could only swap locations, SE Missouri for a Mediterranean coastline village, we'd be set!:wink2:

Wise, tell your Colombian friend that this Throwdowner says, "Hola!"

Count us (wife and I) as another couple who don't do much red meat. We use beef maybe 4 or 5 times a month. Lots of chicken, turkey and fish. They are our favorites, these days. If we do eat beef, most often we crave a good burger. That happens when we're on the way somewhere and have no time. The challenge there is to find a good sandwich that isn't 3/4 pound! America - land of excessive eaters.

Well, I didn't do well last week. Not badly, either, though. Ended the week at 165.0. Up 0.4 lbs this year. Sounds like a plateau. I'll probably stick there until summer, when I usually lose a couple of pounds. Can't complain. Last couple of winters I gained weight. If I just stay stable, that's a sort of victory to me.

SB - Sounds like you're taking your physical therapy seriously. Good idea. That way you will be able to get the maximum benefit from that new hardware. You did take the 100,000 mile warranty, didn't you?

Thanks Steve. Maintaining in the winter is not a bad thing. Spring will bring us more opportunities to be active.

I haven't actually started PT yet -- my surgery is scheduled April 9. But I am trying to practice some of the post-surgery exercises now so I'll be familiar with them and hopefully in a little better shape to do well rehabbing with the replacement device. As for warranties, I guess they're the same that we got with our valve replacements. :tongue2:

It's nice to see that most of you are cutting down on red meat.
Skinless chicken and unbreaded fish is the way to go :) Add steamed brown rice and steamed veggies for a completely nutritious meal that is low cal and low fat.

I consider myself lucky. I'm one of those types that cannot bring lunch to work. (Don't ask - too many bad stories about trying for a few minutes of privacy to eat.) I found a new restaurant not far from work that serves things like turkey meatballs with low fat low sodium marinara sauce, they use low fat cheeses, they serve real grilled chicken breast (not soaked in salty marinade), whole wheat pasta, brown rice, etc. They do not even have a deep fryer. All of their "side" dishes are things I feel free to eat - salads with low fat dressings, etc. Their menu lists complete nutritional information about each dish - fat content, carbs, sodium, calories, etc. The humorous thing about the place is its name -- "Muscle Maker Grill." They cater to the gym rats, but us heart patients are right at home. I just eat about half of what the big guys eat.

Can't go there every day, but at least I'm not stuck with the fast food chains.
