Cooker's Throwdown Friday ...2-22-13

Ugh...baked goodies are my weakness...especially when my 4 year old calls me at work to say, "mommy, guess what I did today. I baked chocolate chip cookies...and ya know what? They are as big as my whole face!" Guess this will be another one of those weeks when I end up saying "next week I will do better."

Well, I got home yesterday evening to about 4 inches of wet snow on the whole world. I ran the snowblower, and within about 45 minutes it was clear, BUT it was still snowing pretty hard. This morning, I awoke to another 3 inches of really dense, wet snow. I didn't even try the blower. I just took out my trusty shovel, took small chunks, and cleared it all by hand. Guess that makes up for the missed trip to the gym last evening. I tried to calculate how much weight I moved, and with about 2,000 square feet of walks and driveway, about 3 inches deep, it works out to around 40,000 pounds of water! Cleared that all, went inside to change into some dry clothes and just went to work. What a testament to what Dr. McCarthy and my care team accomplished for me! I doubt that they remember me, but I will remember them forever.

P.S. My wife baked brownies - I'm in trouble. . .

Not trying to sabotage you, Steve, but sounds like you deserve a brownie. A reward. Sometimes we earn those. I know you're aware of this more than I, but take it easy doing that shoveling. I don't have to shovel snow where I live now but when I lived in the mountains, I did from time to time. Took it nice and slow and easy, lots of breaks. But this is pretty silly, me giving advice to a Chicagoland veteran on this subject.:biggrin2:

Just had that brownie. Yum! All things in moderation.

Yeah, we Chicagoans are used to snow and the impact it can have on health. I never "fill" my shovel fully - it gets too heavy then. If I take smaller amounts I can easily do what I must, with no issues any more serious than some sore muscles. Not even painful soreness - just what it feels like after a good workout. Life is good!

I'm just popping my nose in here because rumor has it that SuperBob is about to break a super barrier :)
Looking forward to his weigh in.
And enjoying the progress of the group. I'll take a few of those brownies and cookies for safe-keeping. <grin>

Cookies and goat milk coming up!

I just re-did my math on the snow weight. I found that I omitted the factor that relates snow weight to water. So, I really "only" moved about 4,000 lbs, not 40,000. I thought that looked kind of huge. But anyway, shovelling 4,000 lbs before work, then going to the gym after work should keep my on the right track to maintain muscle tone.
