Welcome to the Anticipating the New Year edition of Cooker's classic, long-running, weight-losing Throwdown.

"Tis the day after Christmas, and probably not too many of us are motivated to step on scales this morning. But maybe tomorrow morning, after getting in a little exercise today? Maybe this weekend?

Superbob actually has two weigh-in days now -- Tuesday for Weight Watchers and Friday for the TD. The first WW weigh-in showed positive results. Will they hold two days after Christmas? We shall see. Superbob definitely exercised more restraint than he has at Christmases and Thanksgivings past. For instance, at dessert time, SB had small silvers of both the cherry and pumpkin pie, but no seconds and he did NOT get up in the middle of the night and eat leftover pie or any other rich goodies. So he has had tastes of the delicacies but exercised moderation. (Pause now while Man of Steel pats himself on his steely back. :D )

Our thoughts are with Duffey in hopes she is feeling better.

Others perhaps have been traveling or taking a break…we would love to hear from them when they're ready to return.

As he types this, Superbob is wearing not jammies, but a handsome Superman shirt he received for Christmas. :D

Okay, SB will weigh in tomorrow morning. Look forward to hearing from others. Hope all who observe Christmas had a wonderful one….and in addition hope that 2014 will be a great year for all!

Duffey IS feeling better but is still coughing her socks off. Speaking of socks off, Duffey wonders if Superbob is typing wearing only his Superman shirt or is his lower torso clothed in appropriate super hero tights?
I will weigh tomorrow, but I hate to. No, it's not that I fear that I've gained weight. Duffey was too under the weather to fix even one dessert for the Christmas meal. That's a 40 year first. So my plan to eat well, really well over the holiday and thereby secure the best pole position in our race to St. Paddy's Day, has been thwarted.

Superbob will just let your imagination run wild as to what the rest of his typing outfit (if any) consists of, Duffey. :wink2: But who would wear tights on the morning after Christmas, hmmmm? :p

Glad to hear you are feeling better, Duffey, but what a bummer to be feeling so ill as to break a 40-year dessert-making tradition. Bet your family was sad about that too.

Anyway, keep getting better. Using the authority vested in me by the Great and Powerful Oz-Chimp, I will be glad to grant you a mulligan if you would like to secure a prime starting position in the Race to Saint Paddy's day. :biggrin2:

Take care.

We're ready for the race to St. Paddy's Day. This week will probably help my chances in said race. I am sure that I will post a gain after a less than perfect Christmas eating week, but I am not concerned. I could have maintained probably, but I did succumb to some stress eating. Not the end of the world, but I hope it's only a couple pounds or less - just saying.

Way to go, Duffey! However, Superbob is not starting the Race to Saint Paddy's Day 'til January 2. If you wish to appeal to the ultimate controlling authority, Sir Chimpster of the Palmetto Realm, you may (I understand that he can be bribed). :tongue2:

As for Superbob, he will weigh in Saturday morning after a day of trying to restore a semblance of sanity to dinnertime. SB has done remarkably well in being light on the desserts but it is practically impossible to avoid rich foods this time of year. :rolleyes2:

Hi all! I am back after an extended absence that included a cruise over Thanskgiving, a visit to Walt Disney World and lots of extra time at work to catch up prior to the end of the year. My weight remains basically the same, thanks to continuing to train for a 10K next month (15 miles logged this week) and no thanks to having lobster and risotto on Thanksgiving!

Good to see that everyone is doing as well as can be expected during this season of sharing all those cold and 'flu bugs. I will weigh in for the week tomorrow. -- Suzanne

Hi Suzanne! So glad you've returned safely after your fun-sounding adventures! :smile2: Congrats on your maintaining -- that's a win this time of year! We look forward to your posts on the Throwdown. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

January 2 is just fine with me. Not happy with my weight and neither is my body. Feeling the side effects of excess that started around Thanksgiving. As Arnold would say ........ I'll be back......

2013 Starting Weight: 231
Last Weigh In : 228.50
Todays Weight: 233.0
YTD: +2

They say confession is good for the soul. Is it good for the body, too?

Whatever, Superbob must confess that he has gained one pound since last week's Throwdown. That puts him up just 1/10 of a pound for 2013.

Superbob hopes to shed at least this one pound by next Tuesday's WW weighing so that he will not have slipped back there. And then of course begins the Race to Saint Paddy's Day next Thursday or Friday.

I suppose gaining just 1 pound during Christmas week can be considered something of a "win." There are leftover pies and cakes all around this abode that SB has not eaten, as tradition seems to expect him to do. Soon they will have to be thrown away. Thinking of all the calories not eaten. :biggrin2:

You can't totally abstain from Christmas goodies like sweet potato casserole, baked lovingly by loved ones, without being a Grinch. I have done as well as I can without becoming Grinch-like.

Sounds like The Chimp will be well-positioned to compete for the wearing o' the ceremonial green in the Saint Paddy's winner's circle. :D

Thanksgiving and Christmas does do their damage, but as you said SB it is expected and normal. No remorse. No guilt. Back on track and better than ever. That is the way to approach it!

Went to our WW meeting this morning. They hand out these cards good for a pass at weighing. I almost used mine, but decided I'd take the hit. I only gained .6 lbs. and am very happy with that. Cindy took the pass, but I don't think she did worse than I did. Anyway, Cindy is positioned to be a threat in the race to St. Paddy's. My goal is to get to my goal weight by then, but if it takes longer, no problem either.

Chimp, don't beat yourself up. Weighing at this time of the year is a victory. At least you are facing the gain and going on!

SB, very good job. One pound is nothing for a superhero. Good luck on Tuesday.

Duffey, hope you are continuing to feel better. Congrats on the loss for the year; that's the goal!

Hello Steve, if you pop in. Hope you are doing well.

Welcome back Suzanne.

Welcome back Suzanne.

Sounds like an insignificant holiday gain for you, Wise. And I bet Cindy indeed will be a threat to win the Saint Paddy's Day Race. And Cooker, too.

I agree, we will welcome back faithful members of our merry band, Steve & Laurie for instance, when they are ready to return. And others who have graced our threads past. :smile2: And Suzanne, it's great to have you joining us, too.

Outback tonight (gift card). But had dressing on side for salad, little butter on side (no sour cream) for baked potato, and took half of ribeye steak home for tomorrow night's reheated dinner. DW got a sampler size of a chocolate thunder from down under, and insisted on two spoons (maybe she's trying to kill me since I'm a type 2) but I took only 2 or 3 bites. Not too much damage done. Still have 2 WW points left for day. Maybe I'll eat an apple.

Good job! The apple is free. You could have a little cheese with the apple for the two points. A little late for that advise, but good going!

I have amended my weight in my initial post. I have been fighting fluid build up since the cruise (first time with this problem) and was shocked this morning to see such a drop in my weight. I don't want to be accused of sandbagging so I thought I would set the record straight . If I keep going in this direction I may be able to end up this year where I started, plus all this fluid really makes me feel rotten. That's not much of a victory but it's better than a gain!!!

The Chimp keeps things real. He could have saved all that weight loss for the Race, but he totes it now. Shows why he is the straight-arrow exemplar of accountability here. :D

I want to send a shout out to our recently acquired fellow Throwdowner, Hensylee. She's taken a tumble and broken her wrist. Get better quick, Ann. We've got an upcoming race you'll need to keep an eye on.

I'm still around, but the last few weeks have been so frantic in so many ways that I wasn't focused well. We were out of town for a week - and you all know what that can do to a weight loss program. But then, I caught a cold and didn't feel like eating. Then came the big family Christmas dinner at our house. My wife and I were so busy that we didn't have time to eat much, so it really did little damage (all right, the couple of cocktails didn't help, but no time for fancy side dishes and desserts). We still have house-guests. Our daughter and son-in-law are with us until New Year's Day, so I'm still at risk, weight-wise.

I don't even remember my last weigh-in details, but here's the year-to-date summary:

Start of year: 164.6
Now: 157.2
YTD: -7.4

I'm going to weigh in on the 2nd for my official start of the new year, though, as we still have a lot of holiday stuff ahead.
