I have been sucked into the great cookie exchange of 2012 hosted by those sweet Baptist women ... Even though I’m up two pounds I’m still on the minus side for the maintenance phase of the Throwdown:thumbup: .... Tis the season to eat and that’s what TheChimp does best ... I have been true to the pool and have been four times this week but I may skip this morning due to a case of the crud ...

How have you done? ... Up? .... Down? ... Thanks for the support you offer ... I see great losses for 2013!!!!

Maintenance Phase Starting Weight 228.5
Last Week .... 224.0
This Week .... 226.0
Maintenance Status .... -2.5

***Superbob's*** starting weight in the Race to Maintain:

265 pounds

Superbob's weight last week: 262.7

Superbob's weight this morning: 262.3

Result so far: minus 2.7 for the Race to Maintain

The 250s are in sight, a level Superbob hasn't seen for 20 years! Probably not realistic to expect to get there in December, but definitely a doable goal for the New Year!

Superbob could be doing more exercise -- sweet ol'Superdawg at least sees to it that there is a daily walk. Got to get to workout room today too. Saw on TV this morning, a new work chair from which you can pedal while working --- hmmmmmm, interesting concept.

Today Big Mama and the grandkids will be baking her famous Christmas sugar cookies. Okay, for multiple reasons, SB can no longer eat big ol' platters full of these delicacies (she really should market them -- they are that good!) --- SB will eat one cookie, very slowly, and savor each small taste....

Wishing seasonal merriness to all our good Throwdowners! :smile2:

My starting weight to maintain: 151.5
This week's weight to maintain: 150.0

I baked banana bread for granddaughter Haley yesterday, but she is home sick from school . . . spending the day with grandma . . . so she will claim the loaf and keep me out of trouble.
Regarding cookie troubles, I still need to bake cookies for my family, so if Cooker and Superbob will send me all that their DWs have baked, we'd all be winners!:wink2::tongue2:

I'm not having a bad week in that I am feeling better than I have for a long time. Weight, that's another story. Again, I forgot to weigh this morning. I am going with my weight yesterday. That puts me up 3.0 for the race to maintain, weighing at 195.5. This has to turn around. I believe it start to after I get straightened out hormonally. Not that everything I've eaten has been helpful, mind you. Tomorrow is a new day with new resolve.

So glad to hear that you three are doing so well. I'm happy that you're on the loss side.

When you send all those cookies to Duffey, please don't get my addressed confused with hers because I will eat them.

Ha! I posted an update, but on last week's thread. In effect, I'm a little better off after weighing this morning.

My current weight is 194.6, which puts at +2.1 for the race to maintain. Maybe I can get back to even yet.

Oh man, it's a vicious crud going around this winter. I still have some lingering effects from a few weeks ago. I hope you are over yours without complication, Mr. Chimp. My doc gave me a z-pack and it did seem to help.

I'm on my 2nd z-pack now ... feeling some better ... the pool is closed for a week for refinishing the deck so I won't be pushing myself too hard this week...

Wishing you a quick recovery Cooker! Being sick at Christmas time would be the pits.

Hope everyone else stays well and has a great rest of the week!

Thanks for all the well wishes:biggrin2: ... I'm feeling better but not 100% ... I'm finished with the z-pack but staying on the Mucinex until the rattle in my chest is gone ... I WILL be well by the time Christmas dinner is served :smile2:

Glad you're starting to feel better, Mr. Chimp! By all means, get 100 percent by time the Christmas dinner bell rings. Superbob is going to a fine Brazilian steakhouse shortly to start getting in feasting shape. Just thinking of it as a temporary foray into the Atkins Diet, given all the succulent slices of standing rib roast and the like.

Well, maybe I will stick my toes in the water here, folks. It seems that I am fighting the same battle each of you has been, just from a different starting point.

At weigh-in this morning I was at 164.2. That is down 3.8 lbs. from my all-time high of 168. Based upon my small stature (5'8" tall, small frame) I should be somewhere around 150-155, I think. I will have to do the research on BMI to set a realistic target. I seem to have picked up about 10 pounds in about the last 10 years, and I don't think it does me any good.

My immediate action plan is:
1. Do the research and set a realistic goal.
2. Re-start my morning work-out schedule, which was put on hold for my battle with this year's upper respiratory crud. Two different antibiotics seem to have put it at bay, but still using the Mucinex. Morning routine is free weights (light weight, high reps), push-ups, etc.
3. Stay with my after-work workout schedule. This is the 5 days/week trip to the gym to do 15-20 min. on an Airdyne bike and 15-20 min. jogging on a treadmill. I plan to gently increase the intensity of this phase of my activity. (I am aware that I will "lose" several days' workouts as the gym is near work and the holidays will likely get in the way. Such is life.)
4. Implement "portion control" at the dinner table. Unfortunately, my wife is a marvellous cook and we have a home-cooked dinner almost every day. She does, however, understand that I am trying to manage my weight, and is not offended if I skip the second helpings.

I figure that if I can make it through the holiday season without packing on any more weight, I should be able to drop a few pounds after the holidays.

You guys and gals are an inspiration. You make me feel that even at my advanced age (Yikes - I'm 65 now!) there is hope of getting to and maintaining a reasonable weight. I may never again look like I did when I was in my 40's or even 50's, but I can feel better and look better than most of the seniors around me!

Steve!!! Welcome to the Throwdown!!! Glad to have you with us and I hope we can offer some inspiration and fun while reducing our mass:biggrin2: ....

Hey Steve! I heard through the "chimp vine":biggrin2: that you might join our merry band of dieters! Your plan to lose, and then maintain your weight, sounds reasonable to me. Hopefully we'll be able to offer support while you're on the road to whittling it down.:smile2:

Welcome to the Throwdown Steve. I weigh just over 30 pounds more that you do and I'm shorter than you are. That's a reminder to me about just how obese I am. It's good reminder however. Anyway, welcome aboard this merry little band of supportive losers.

I should really join in the fun as well. I joined weight watchers 3 years ago...a couple month after I quit nursing my daughter. Nursing was the ULTIMATE workout. I burned so many calories, I could eat whole pizzas by myself and STILL lose weight. When I stopped nursing, I didn't stop eating and it wasn't long before I realized that I weighed more than I did when I was 9 months pregnant...YIKES!!

I managed to get to my goal weight with weight watchers, but let it slide when I found out that OHS was coming. I had heard that you lose weight after surgery (not true for me) and I really like food. I had enough stress while I was in the waiting room.

Up until surgery and for a little while post surgery I was maintaining at about 5-7 pounds over my goal which was only 1-2 pounds outside of my target range. Then somehow I ended up gaining another 10 pounds...just since April!!! I know how it happened, I was done with rehab, I met my goal of walking in a 5K 3 months post surgery and it got really, really hot outside. I quit exercising AND started eating way too much.

My plan is:
1) Eat really well at all times with a "get out of jail free" card for Xmas get togethers. (No free passes after 12/26)
2) At minimum 30 mins of cardio/day...probably walking at work or "dancing off the inches" at home.
3). Add some sort of ab toning exercise (sit ups) daily.

I really want to lose 10 pounds by Jan 25 when I will be seeing an old crush.
If that's not good incentive I don't know what is!

Steve and mom2izzy --- welcome! It is so good to have you both as members of the Throwdown!

I have struggled with weight my whole life -- it used to be an advantage when I was a schoolboy football player, but that is ancient history. I certainly carry too many pounds now. At one time, I was within sight of 300 pounds :eek2: . . . but in good measure due to the Throwdown these past 6 years or so, I now have the 250s in sight, :biggrin2: which is not exactly svelte but is some degree of progress for me. Trying to maintain until Jan. 2, and then start being able to post more losses.

I know you both will contribute much to our discussions -- in fact, you already have.

We kid each other sometimes, but always in a supportive context. Sometimes we share our worries and frustrations here, and receive the comforting blessings of friends' perspectives.

So again, welcome! :smile2:

Thanks, everyone, for the warm welcome.

Superbob - Good-natured kidding is the glue that holds many bands of merry men/women together. That's how I kept my sanity through cardiac rehab -- I was the Class Clown. If you can't have at least one good laugh every day, you have wasted that day.

My laugh this morning was from the Body Mass Index calculator I tried. When I entered my height and weight, its advice was "Don't gain any weight." Duh!
