I really am not in the chipper mood that is ideal for opening Mr. Chimp's Throwdown here. But I will do it anyway.

Usually when we have "wintry mix" here on the coast, it melts by afternoon. Not with this storm. The ice is so stubborn, you almost think a blowtorch is needed to make a dent in it. Temps finally are supposed to rise a few degrees above freezing today for the first time in three days, so we might get a little relief. Then it is supposed to be much warmer -- into the 60s even -- over the weekend.

Not been a good week for me. No, I have not eat, eat, eaten comfort food. Did eat a couple of Hebrew National hot dogs for dinner last night for first time in a long time. The scales then talk back at me this morning as though I have been on a binge. Iced in, I have been unable to walk or bike for exercise, so maybe that's part of it. I am also worried about having some sort of weird reaction to a shingles shot -- have pain in both shoulders, especially at night, esp. the arm in which I had the shot. Hoping this too will pass.

Okay, all this is gloom, but that's all I've got today. Will weigh tomorrow or Saturday.

Hope things are better with the rest of y'all.

I am not in a chipper mood either when I am stuck in the house because of ice. The hotdogs, the gift of sodium, will pass and you'll return to normal. Don't worry about not being chipper. It's a normal part of life, for sure.

At least one Throwdowner must be chipper at any given moment. I forgot the rule number, but it exists somewhere in the Ref's manual. Thanks for taking the hit Ref,.. err I mean Duffey.

Actually, I found some hotdogs at Kroger, no additives whatsoever, only 2 WW points each. They are chicken hot dogs but they taste like a normal hot dog. Delicious. Anyway, the brand is Simple Truth.

I'm down 2.5. Been trying to watch what I eat but with this cold weather and snow I may be in trouble.... How about some of Mrs Cooker's chocolate chip cookies or Mr Chimp's chocolate chip pancakes:biggrin2: ... I have also found that just about any type of cream pie will boost spirits... just trying to help:tongue2:

2104 Starting Weight: 232
Todays Weight: 229.5
Net Change: 2.5

oh yes indeed.
Chocolate chip cookies and pancakes are what we call (up here in the far North) Comfort food on cold wintery days.
It's only -7F but with the wind it feels like -22F.
Good day to have a pot of stew, another comfort food.

Hey Wise, cat litter will work on those icy sidewalks

Good Luck Throwdowners.

Hi Freddie! Thanks for the tip. Actually, we were just talking about that last night and I was wondering if cat litter really worked for ice. Got my answer from Canada!

Hey Fred, can you call the winter weather and tell it you miss it and ask it to come home? Obviously it's lost; it even stumbled into South Carolina this week.:tongue2:

Thought I would toughen-up you guys in the U.S.
Sorry, but I'm not calling the cold weather back. Even -22F is a tad too cold for me.

Hey Wise, salt (table salt) also works, but it can cause damage to cement. Cat litter works cause it will stick to the ice and absorb the water once it starts melting, plus it gives you traction - it's like walking on gravel. Just don't sweep the litter onto your grass cause it will kill it. I learnt that one a few years ago lol.

Hi, everyone!

Here in Chicago, we're having the 3rd snowiest January since they started recording these things over 120 years ago. I can tell you that I nearly lost it when I had to brush off my car (again!) after work yesterday. We're expecting something like another 6 to 15 inches of the white junk (depending upon which forecast you believe) over the weekend, then back into the deep freeze. This sure has made a mess of my workout schedule, too. No chance to walk outdoors - people (and businesses, it seems) have given up clearing their walks, and to walk in the street is just not safe. Some days it takes so much time to clear the snow that I can't spare time to go to the gym, either. Makes me really cranky.

Weight and diet-wise, my situation is mixed. I've been fighting a nasty sinus bug for 6 or 7 weeks now. I'm now on super-antibiotic #2, along with oral cortico-steroids for the swelling/congestion. These meds are messing with my heart rate, my appetite, and fluid retention. When I started them, my weight jumped up almost 3 pounds overnight. Now, 5 days later, it dropped a couple of pounds. I did weigh, and will report, but will not claim "ownership" of the favorable result until I can prove whether it is medication-induced or real.

Start of year: 158.8
Last week: 157.4
This week: 156.8

YTD: -2.0 IF. . .

A winter in Chicago must be a huge challenge -- you are doing well to hang in there, Steve.

The sun is coming out and we have the start of some serious melting this morning.

Speaking of melting, I am down 2 lbs from my Thursday Morning Surprise. However, think I will officially weigh in Sunday morning -- have to get up at wee hours tomorrow to run a Mended Hearts booth at our hospital's community health fair.

Next big challenge with be DW's dedication to laying out a huge spread of food -- chili, chips and dip, desserts, you name it -- for the family for the Super Bowl. Sometimes she says she doesn't like to cook anymore, but then she cooks, cooks, cooks of her own volition -- she will be cooking much of next two days. I should be grateful and I am -- but it is a challenge to stay on WW and TD track.

I'm taking a Mulligan for the week. I don't know if my weight gain is due to the antibiotic (like epstns's post) I'm on, but the scales looked like I was up a few pounds on Wednesday. Since there's nothing to do about it for right now, I decided to not rub salt in the wound and chose instead to skip today's official weigh-in. I'm hoping for sunshine and good health this week, but looking at next week's wintry forecast, I may have to settle for one out of two.:wink2:
Good job, Cooker, good job, Superbob, good job, Steve, good luck, Wise and Cindy!:smile2:

A quick report for this week. We're hosting a get together tonight and are consuming extra points, so we dropped in at WW to weigh.

In short, I stayed exactly the same at 172.6. So my loss for the year is at 4.4. Cindy lost .8, weighing 146.8, for a loss for the year of 3.6.

Good job so far SB. I don't blame you for waiting to officially weigh.

Steve, what lousy weather you're having. I don't like ours, but yours is much much worse. You're doing well to be on a downward trend, even if it isn't decided exactly why yet : )

Duffey, I don't think it's fair that Freddie won't take winter back!

Cooker, good job! I am so so so over winter. If I had to be stuck in the house, I would not have done as well as you did.

If she is like most of us, I'm guessing that your DW still LIKES to cook, its that she doesn't like HAVING to cook.

I am afraid to report in from out here in drought stricken California, where we actually had visible sprinkles yesterday for more than 1 minute! Woot!

I weighed in today and lost another 1/2 pound. 5 more to go until "goal" and 23 down from March, 2013. I am trying to be patient and recognize that it is a journey -- not a destination -- but I am at that place where I really need new clothes (even my shoes are too big).

Hang in there everyone. Feel better and stay warm. -- Suzanne

Congrats to Suzanne for success with weight loss! Go ahead and buy something in your new size. That will keep you motivated.

Super Bob, hope you are feeling more chipper today!

Hello to everyone on the throw down today. Anybody watching the Super Bowl tomorrow? I am. We love Peyton Manning down here in the South. Love a comeback story after an injury.

Trying to figure out my wild weight swings:confused2: ... I seem to be all over the scales and really confuse on what's going on but I suspect it's a combination of dehydration then binges... Having a bit of SOB and need to get in touch with the cardiologist on that... today I was 233 which is up from Friday by 3.5 .. very frustrating but I suspect that I'm eating on the fly, grazing and maybe even sleep eating:tongue2: ... whatever is going on I still predict that the South will "drop" again:cool2:

Down 2.4 lbs in the Race to Saint Paddy's Day, but up 1.1 over the past week -- not an easy week.

Will be rooting for the Vol for Life, Peyton Manning, and the Broncos in the big game today. Go Big Orange!

Weight swings are for swingers. :tongue2: Last Thursday morning I was looking at a 4 pound overnight gain -- I wondered if i would have to call my doctor. However, I've cut 2.5 pounds off that --- now comes the family Super Bowl party. My only defense there has been to get a veggie tray to use for dipping' instead of the chips the other son doubt will eat. But with chili and cakes and all, it's not looking good for tomorrow morning. Will just have to work it off tomorrow.

You'll be fine, fellow South Carolina swinger!

Go Peyton and the Broncos!

Don't worry about Super Bowl calories. It's just once a year and there are not any calories in those chips, and chili, and cake, etc.

Anyway, I'm watching with Cindy. She's for Denver. I'm for the beer I had and the Hershey's kisses I'm having now, hehe.
