Welcome to the start of a new week of Throwdown weighing-in and/or lively banter among Throwdowners around the globe. :smile2::thumb up:

Superbob and family were taken to a huge, sumptuous buffet restaurant last night on the spur of the moment by Son of Superbob. :biggrin2:

Superbob chose his vittles heroically by loading up on the salad bar, carefully selecting a few delicacies (avoiding the plentiful fried ones), and then at the teeming dessert bar choosing fresh melon and orange slices, with just one tablespoon (honest!) of peach cobbler.

Still Superbob thinks he will wait til tomorrow morning to weigh in, 'cause tonight Mrs. Superbob will be preparing for dinner … grilled salmon, the miracle food guaranteed to help you get slim, trim, lean and mean. :biggrin2:

Superbob thinks he will have further gains (losses) to report for the Great Race to Saint Paddy's Day. As for the brief spurt of trash talk from The Chimp, bring it on Chimpster! The caped superhero ain't 'fraid of no simian, nor any Gamecocks. :tongue2:

Happy new weigh-in week to all!

YOUR FAITHFUL AND HUMBLE SERVANT,
DEFENDER OF TRUTH, JUSTICE, AND THE AMERICAN WAY

SUPERBOB

It never gets any easier does it?

I was up 1.5 pounds last Friday. By last week, all that junk food in gifts baskets at work was finally thrown out. It must be that after lifetime of such food, it actually helps! The other possible explanation is that muscles developed from 18 miles of walking and jogging each week actually do weigh more than fat!

I will weigh in again tomorrow or Saturday and report back.

Keep up the good work and stay healthy. -- Suzanne

Great to have you here with us, Suzanne. You are right -- this is not the easy path we have chosen. But it is the surest route to overall well-being and it is easier to tread in the company of good friends!

How can I not be inspired by Superbob? :) I'm in! I want to lose 15 pounds before my next meeting with the cardiologist in June, and I have weight watchers, exercise and now Steely Resolve to help me. I was down 1.5 lbs last week and still on track for this one (I weigh on Mondays). Carry on everyone!!

And Suzanne it DOES get easier! each new habit and choice is making it easier even if you go up and down a bit. Right?? 18 miles a week is impressive.

Hey, great to have you with us, dornole! Our numbers are growing. There is strength in numbers -- we cannot be stopped!

I joined Weight Watchers Online for Men in mid-December and am greatly pleased with results so far. I like it better than the thought of going to meetings (though I'm sure that works well for many). My weighing-in day for WW is Tuesday -- but I've been doing a separate weigh-in for the TD on Fridays. Maybe I ought to think about switching my WW weighing day to Fridays -- but it really doesn't matter here. You can just report on Monday if that's working for you. We have folks checking in just whenever they want to, weighing when they want to or not -- we are very informal. We support each other and have fun.

Again, welcome to our merry band of Throwdowners!

I'm glad to see Suzanne posting, and yes, I am positive that the muscle built from 18 miles of walking/jogging does weigh more.:smile2:

Hi, Dornole! I see you're from MN. Any chance you're near the cities? I went to college in Winona, and we have a summer place in north central Wisconsin, so I kinda, sorta feel like we're neighbors!:wink2:

Ok ... which one of you guys slid my DW this new fettuccine alfredo recipe under the door .... result up 3 pounds... pass the bread sticks:rolleyes2:

2014 Starting Weight:232
Todays weight: 235

Cooker - Your wife sounds a lot like mine. They do love their pasta, don't they? I like some, but can't live on pasta alone. I also don't do well with pasta sauces that aren't some shade of red. Alfredo, carbonara, etc. -- I'm just not into it.

I'm travelling a difficult valley in weight management. I have hit sort of a plateau where I'm at. I can't find time for any additional exercise, and I don't think there's much I can do to ramp up the effort during the time I have. I lift weights (light weight, high reps), ride a stationary bike (at about 16 MPH) and power-walk on a treadmill inclined at a 13% grade. Add this to the fact that my wife thinks I do not eat enough and that I don't really need to lose any weight, and it gets rough.

I started the year at 158.8 lbs.
I'm now at 157.4
YTD -1.4 lbs.

But for me, since I've been stable in a rather narrow range for a long time, I attribute my week-to-week fluctuations to fluid retention.

I can only hope to hold on until warmer weather sets in (currently -2 F here). Then I can be more active just by doing normal things, and I can walk a lot more. Hurry Summer!

Love it that folks are signing on, signing in, and we're going forward!

Steve, what you're doing sounds like progress to me. I know slowness of pace can be frustrating at times, but hey, Spring is just around the corner (well, okay, maybe a couple of corners). :D

Mr. Chimp, I know you will bounce back -- you always do.

These are Superbob's stats:

Weight at start of January: 263

Today's weight: 259.5

Net loss to date for 2014: 3.5 pounds

(And since starting Online Weight Watchers for Men in mid-December, SB has lost 8.4 pounds.)

Yesterday, I had a follow-up appointment with my eye doctor, who was concerned about something he saw in my last appointment. I assumed it was possible onset of macular degeneration or a cataract. No, he said when I asked, he was checking the retina for damage done by diabetes. He saw no change yesterday, so that was good news. I told him I am confident he will see none as we go forward because I am now empowered. I am going to continue my present course and kick diabetes2 and shed the meds under my GP's supervision. She already has reduced the dosage of one. It can be done. I've got this. I am grateful for the help of both the TD (and friends here) and WW.

Looking forward to hearing how others are doing.

Steve, sounds like you're doing very well. Those plateaus do happen. Consistency is the key, and it appears that your the epitome of consistency. Find the good fight even if you have to battle "you don't need to lose any weight." I got that from friends even when I was told by my doctor "you're obese, technically." I however, unlike you, love Alfredo sauce; that's why I haven't been to Olive Garden in forever, hehehe.

Superbob, again I tried to post the word superb online and my iPhone autocorrected to Superbob, lol. I did catch it. It's my iPhone's way of reminding me to track my WW points, I think. Also, you have done phenomenally well on WW. You may get off of those meds before it's all said and done. I've done it before with other meds (cholesterol). A reduction though is great!

Duffey, hope you have recovered all the way. Have you heard lately how Ann is? Hope she's better!

Cooker, hey my motto is if I'm going to eat it I'm going to enjoy it. After it's over, I'm going to throw out any guilt with the leftovers. You'll bounce back this week! If you're going to eat a breadstick, then eat one for me, hehe.

Welcome to our new members! Glad to see some more merry weight losers in the ranks.

Okay, here's our report for this week, which we battled yucky roads to get to the scale at the WW meeting in order to report:

CINDY:

2014 Beginning weight: 150.4
Last Week: 149.4
This Week: 147.6
Weekly Change: -1.8
Loss for RTSPD: 2.8

WISE:

2014 starting weight: 177
Last Week: 174.6
This Week: 172.6
Weekly Change: -2
Loss for RTSPD: 4.4

So, we had a great week! Since starting at WW on 10/26/13 Cindy has lost 13.8 lbs. and I have lost 18.2 lbs. This is our most successful effort in a long time at weight loss. I am still in awe at how well we've done. I hope everyone has a great week, whether you lose weight, maintain, or adjust up. Now I'll shut up.

Great report, Cindy and Wise! Great report, Superbob!

I stayed the same for the week. Darling husband shared his cold with me, and I lacked enough immune reserves to fight it off. I spent a few more days in bed, (BUT!) I feel pretty good today! :tongue2:The school our grandchildren attend is holding its first ever 5K Run/Walk the end of March, and I am hopeful I will be able to start training for it any day now. I am an optimistic son-of-a-gun!

Last week: 149
This week: 149
YTD: 2.5

The Kentucky Flash continues to hold the lead in the Race to Saint Paddy's Day! :eek2: Superbob re-dedicates himself to winning the victory scone -- even if it takes conniving. :tongue2: (Cindy is a contender too. :smile2:)

All seem to be doing well as can be! Hooray for us!

Today's weigh in showed me down 2.5 from last week, which more than wiped out the gain.

For 2014, I am down 2 pounds, but I am down 22.5 from my meeting with my cardiologist in early Match 2013. I still want to lose another 5.5 pounds.

I'm glad to hear that so many of you are finding value in WW. I am not a member but have been in the past. I still remember one of my leaders saying that the hardest thing about exercising is putting your shoes on. I think of her on those morning when I am contemplating sleeping in instead of running or walking.

Keep up the good work and stay healthy. -- Suzanne

The Victory Scone - the trophy of all trophies!

Ha! With your post, you're in!:biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2: I'll leave it to Cooker or Superbob to recite all the mumbo jumbo, but believe me, just expressing an interest is enough to get you conscripted!:tongue2::tongue2::tongue2:

Neil,

Our only rule is that there are no rules! :D Those of us with the objective of losing some pounds usually weigh in/report on Friday or Saturday -- if we want to. We have some folks who aren't seeking weight loss who just check in and share in the banter -- about food, the weather, families, whatever we're doing.

We'd love to have you as a regular here -- have enjoyed your posts in other vr.org threads for years.
