Welcome to the start of a new Throwdown weigh-in. We traditionally open this on a Thursday for any early birds (used to have some Down Under), but most seem to weigh in Friday or Saturday.

Superbob will weigh in tomorrow.

We have a low-key "race" to see who can make the most progress by St. Patrick's Day, but participation is voluntary. You can just check in without competing if you prefer. We old-timers here know this really is a marathon, not a sprint, but sometimes some of us have little races for extra incentive and fun.

Okay, what are we all up to? I have sworn off American Idol from time to time, but I am back on board now that Harry Connock, Jr. is on a reconstituted judging panel with Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban. Last night's premiere was a lot of fun. Are other TDers tuning in? (Connock to Urban: "You're from Australia and that's as Southern as it gets!" :biggrin2: ) Connock is witty and a perceptive judge of musician talent. (Tonight is the second half of the premiere.)

Okay all that has nothing in particular to do with weight loss. Superbob has turned over some new leaves with the new year and swears by Weight Watchers and a new doctor who's letting him test dropping some of his meds that may be doing more harm than good. Superdawg is hanging in there for a daily walk, and SB makes it to the workout room 3-4 times a week.

Looking forward to hearing from one and all.

I am HAPPY to be the first Throwdowner to weigh in this week. Yes, that means I've had a loss.:tongue2: I'm down two pounds, and I attribute it to losing a significant amount of fluid that had accumulated in my lungs over the course of my almost-3-week illness. I did get hit with the H1N1 virus, and most members of the family have followed suit. It seems to have made little difference whether we had received the flu vaccination or not. I didn't, but our son, DH, SIL, and grandson Charlie did. I did have the most severe case, so maybe the vaccine provided the others with more protection. Anyway, I'm counting my lucky stars that I am on the other side of it.
Starting weight for St. Paddy's Day Race: 151.5
Last week: - 1/2 pound
This week: -2 pounds
Total: -2 1/2 pounds

PS I meant to add that I did try walking this week-end, but the temperature was too cold with the 23 mph gusts factored in. I only lasted 20 minutes, but I suppose that's a start.

Sorry you and your household have had such a rough bout of the flu, Duffey, but congrats on ditching the fluid accumulation and losing the 2 pounds.

You may be pretty close to Superbob in the Saint Paddy's Day Race but you will soon be left in the dust. :tongue2: Good start anyway!

Superbob's starting weight in the Race to Saint Paddy's Day: 263

Superbob's weight this morning: 261

Status in the race: down 2 pounds -- tied with Duffey! :eek2: Surely Duffey is thrilled to be giving the caped superhero a run for his scones. :biggrin2:

With Weight Watchers, the average pace of change has been minus-1.7 pounds per week since mid-December. SB senses that rate may be slowing a bit, but from his experience and extrasensory powers, he knows that is normal. You have to hang in there; the rate naturally will slow, maybe to 1 pound a week. If you stay the course, it will add up (or down) to closer to where you need to be. :thumb up:

Looking forward to hearing from Wise & Cindy, and Steve, and some we haven't heard from lately: Laurie, The Chimp :confused2:, Suzanne, others (I bet I'm missing some; this is off the top of my head) -- and valued supporters like Bina and Ann.

All are welcomed to join our merry crew here. :smile2:

Greetings.... Sorry for the absence but things have been hectic and I remain a bit under the weather. Not real sure what it is but if I don't perk up soon I will get it checked out.

2104 Starting Weight: 232
Todays Weight: 232
Net Change: 0

Good to see you Mr. Chimp! Remember what we say: When in doubt, check it out. Hope all's well.

Wow! SB and Duffey, you both had a great week! Of course, losing fluid following an illness is not the ideal way, but a two pound loss is keeper, Duffey. SB, you have your head on straight about the weight loss progression. It WILL slow down. However, the slower it is lost the longer the easy it is to maintain the loss over the long term. Good job!

Cooker, sorry to hear you've been under the weather. You've done really well to maintain with illness and a hectic schedule. I agree with SB, maybe consider getting it checked out? Couldn't hurt. We men can be stubborn when it comes to going to the doctor, I know.

Cindy and I will weigh tomorrow morning. We've had a normal week with splurges factored in. Tonight I was in the "mood" for a splurge BUT I'm out of splurge points, so I will behave. I still have daily points for a little chocolate, which helps. Did you know that "self-discipline" is the longest 4-letter word in the English language?

Always good to hear from The Kentucky Flash. He sets the pace for us here. :biggrin2: Splurges are good, within the points. A new coffeehouse and bakery has just opened in our community -- oh dear. It may be Splurge Central!

SB, Splurge Central is where you'll spending some of those 49 splurge points I'm sure!

LOL, our WW meeting is bursting at the seems with standing room only for many people. Those New Year's resolutions get people started, but staying with it is a different ballgame. No matter what method, program, whatever you use to lose and maintain weight loss, consistency is the key.

Here's our reports:

CINDY:

Starting weight for the year: 150.4
Last Week: 150.6
This Week: 149.4
Week Change: -1.2 lbs.
Loss for RTSPD: 1 lb.

WISE:

Starting Weight for the year: 177
Last Week: 176
This Week: 174.6
Weekly Change: 1.4 lbs.
Loss for RTSPD: 2.4 lbs.

As is normal for me, I've weighed and am now plotting how to use my 49 splurge points. We had arepas with sausage (turkey) and american cheese. Arepas are a type of a very smooth cornbread popular in Colombia and Venezuela and other Latino countries. Our friend Edwin taught me how to make them and we love them. But, those weren't a splurge, just breakfast!

Wise, you and Cindy have had a good week! Congrats! I'd like to hear more about the arepas. Do you eat them alongside the sausage and cheese or together?

Duffey, you eat them either way. Arepas are made using precooked corn meal. I buy the brand P.A.N. but the brand doesn't matter. They are supposed to be crisp on the outside and smooth on the inside. I crisped them up on medium high then put the lid on them to cook them all the way through. You can eat them with cream cheese, preserves, etc. You can mix cheese into the batter. You can make them big enough to fold somewhat like a taco/tortilla. Anyway, if you ever have them I'll be interested to know what you think. By the way, I put the WW american cheese and Jimmy Dean turkey sausage crumbles on the cooked arepa and heated it in the microwave.

I've thought American Idol was moribund in recent years, but looks like Harry Connick Jr. may be helping to revive it.

You are a Throwdowner if you just drop in to say hello. Don't have to be tracking weight but we welcome any who want to do that as well.

OMGosh! The Kentucky Flash leads the Race to Saint Paddy's Day -- 2.4 pounds to Duffey's and SB's 2 pounds apiece!!!!

This cannot stand ---- this ranks with the Wildcats beating the Volunteers a few years back with a wide receiver as their starting quarterback.:eek2:

Time to start cutting into The Flash's lead. :biggrin2:

I had to ask Cindy who the wide receiver quarterback was. She says Randall Cobb? Me have no clue, lol.

I want to join this thread and start checking in. Can't guarantee I'll do it every week. I'm horrible at online commitments..lol But, i do check in to my facebook accountability group, and it's fun. A group of women that keep each other accountable for working out. I recently said that my goal was to lose 4 lbs by my Cardiology appt, Feb 13. So far the scale hasn't budged, but it's only been 3 days, and I can tell my body is already getting stronger. I have an extra 13 pounds of baby weight to lose :0 I actually lost it all after delivery, just from bleeding internally and not being aloud to eat in hospital for awhile. But, I put it back on from taking care of a newborn, lack of sleep, and all that goes along with having a newborn. My baby is 17 1/2 months old now, so it's time to get serious about losing these 13 pounds, before I become comfortable with them. I will try to check in every Friday and see what everyone is up to, and post my progress. Keep up the good work, everyone!
My weight: 145 (actually 146..shhhh)
pre pregnancy: 132 (that's my goal)
first short-term goal (be down to 141 by Cardio appt Feb 13th)
